Ok, I know this issue has been addressed before, at least from a seller's point of view. I won a widget and paid for it via PayPal on 1/14. After contacting the seller for the second time tonight, I'm relatively patient , she says the USPS website says it was delivered 1/25. Now there is almost no chance it was stolen as there is always someone here. Not to mention I leave my outgoing packages in the same place-none of them have ever disappeared. It's possible it was mis-delivered as I have gotten other peoples packages before. Seller is pretty much saying I'm lying, and I don't blame her. I would probably think the same in her shoes. What do you guys think either of us should do? Thanks gang!

Check with your neigbors and people on nearby streets with your house number. The PO "mis-delivers" my stuff all the time.
You shouldn't have to do that but the PO has their own set of self serving rules. You can't win.

The statement above is FALSE.

I'd say you need to have a serious talk with a supervisor at your post office, and try to get them to figure out what happened. It may not work, but then again . . . depends on how cooperative your local PO staff is.
This is one reason that buying DC and insurance on a package is risky; I did both on a package (a return to a large company)and they said they never got it. The PO said they did, and therefore would not pay the insurance claim.
posted on February 9, 2001 08:20:39 AMMouseslayer, If I were you, I would ask the seller to send me the DC number so that you can enter it in the USPS site yourself, print the page and take it to your PO. This at least will prove it had DC on it and is showing as delivered (not to say I wouldn't trust the seller). Then take that copy to your local PO and ask exactly to who/where did they deliver the package since you didn't get it.
As kudzurose has already said, the PO might not do anything if it is indeed showing as delivered. It becomes your word against theirs. The seller more than likely will take theirs. I am afraid you may be out of pocket on this one!
I have had the reversal of the problem, paying for DC and never having it show up as delivered because they forgot to scan at the other end. Then again, they forgot to scan at my end so it never showed up in the system at all. You don't get your money back either, I know, I have tried! It only works when there are no mistakes and oddly enough we are using it because mistakes are made!

I was supposed to get a package from someone that used DC and they too told me it was delivered, but I never got it!
And this week...I was sent a money order on the 26th and as of today still haven't got it....course they could've been pulling my leg too...

It is common, when buyer believes that the package was never delivered, for the package to turn up in buyer's house at some later date.

Did you pay for, or did the seller include insurance with the shipment? If so, you can obtain PS form 1000 from the PO. Of course you will need to obtain the original mailing receipt from the seller and then the PO will rip you for about 7 bucks to conduct the inquiry, but if the PO can't prove who signed for the package or it does not match your signature, you win! and get reimbursed, even the 7 bucks back, from the PO. However, it if is only the DC that was purchased, that pretty much is only good for the seller, as it kinda gives them an out, with the mighty PO on their sides to boot. Our company, Brandywines on eBay, tries to only use UPS, they pick up, cheaper on heavier packages, and both parties can track the package, claims are settled in a week, and free $100 of insurance, way cool, virtually no hassles only a little more wait in some areas for delivery.
Well, there is my 2 cents.

Thanks for your help everyone. I know there are shifty buyers out there who claim they don't get things and when pressed buy the seller it 'magically' appears. But I'm not one of them. I sell a lot too and this exact situation is one that I've feared from a sellers point of view. Thank goodness it's never happened to me. It's not a lot of money, it just bothers me that: 1.The seller is just about accusing me of lying. 2.That USPS says it's delivered, but to whom??
I have a good relationship with my carrier (I have to, I work her a lot! ) so I'll ask her when I see her. The seller did send me the DC #, I didn't think about printing out the page. Shosh, if someone stole it, they would've had to be lying in wait for the carrier. Not more than an hour goes by before we get the mail. We have a slot in the door so all small mail comes straight in the house. Also, the dog always barks at her so we know when she's been. When I'm expecting packages, I immediately open the door to look for them. I guess it's off to the post office for me!
Edited to add it was insured but I guess if DC says it's delivered that doesn't help much.
