Just a quick question - I am thinking of changing my eBay ID while I am taking a break from listing auctions. If I change my ID and get my sunglasses, can old customers still find me if they use my 'former' name?
I don't know how to check this before I make the change and I am sure that someone in this forum must know the answer to this question. I will email many of my regular customers to let them know of the change, but cannot notify all, though some will come looking.
It would seem logical (except, perhaps, to eBay) to let the search function track you for as long as you have the sunglasses. Am I right or am I wrong.

I believe that your old ID is linked to the new one for as long as you wear the sunglasses (30 days). After that, the ID becomes available again. (Yeah, someone else can use it, unless it's your email addy!)

Thank you for the responses. You have answered my question and saved me the effort of trying to find the same info on eBay.
It would be interesting to know for sure if someone else could assume your old identity - that's a little scary. I know eBay hangs onto 'inactive' ID's forever, probably just to keep them on the rolls for statistical purposes.
Hi femme - I'm always around, just don't jump into the fray too often. And soon, it won't be Dennis in TX, but Dennis in Iowa. I just can't seem to fit into Texas, big as it is.
Dennis in MN, then TX, soon IA
I got a haircut and I got a real job.

After 30 days, the old User ID is definitely available to any eBay user.
If you're concerned about this, you can wait the 30 days, then establish a second eBay account and snap up your own old ID before anyone else does.
I changed my main seller ID at the start of this year, then snapped up the old name 30 days later. Then I created an "About Me" page for the original User ID to refer bidders to the new ID.
