Before I knew it was wrong, I put up an auction of something I had recorded off of TV, a whole season of episodes of a popular show TV Show. It was pulled, and I understand why and am okay with that. I won't put anything up like that again. But I see people all the time putting up auctions of things that have recorded off of TV, and some of them get pulled, but most of them don't. And they are making big money. Why is this? And also, when your auction is pulled, do you get the listing fees back?

Wow, I should have done that. I have been watching several tv shows this year. Should have recorded them. Too Bad!

Excuse me, but I believe eBay will refund your fees.

wbfan ... if the series you are talking about involved "three lovely ladies", I know exactly who canceled it, and I support that person's efforts 100%. What you are doing when you offer homemade copies of tv series' for sale is a violation of copyright. Organizations like the MPAA and Columbia House (who own the rights to many cult tv series) are actively patrolling the auction sites.

It's almost impossible to convince the eBay drones that certain listings are illegal, but when they get a cease & desist letter from a lawyer, they usually listen.

btw, you are now on a list somehere, and if you continue to list this type of item even with a revised description, you could very likely get a letter from the MPAA requiring you to:

- turn in all of your tapes,
- name the source(s) of your tapes
- provide names and addresses of everyone you sold copies to (this would really piss off your buyers)

Under extreme cases, they will seize your taping equipment and you could be subject to fines and/or imprisonment.

Is it really worth it?
