Hi everyone - It's a cold and stormy day here in California!
We have appreciated BIG TIME all the help we have received on this board for several items from this big lot of miscellaneous stuff that I got from some Estate Sales a couple years ago in La La Land and just now got out of storage.
Below are a couple links to a scan and close-up of a mark on a "gold" bracelet I am going to list - all it says is "G.C.I."
<a href=http://home.earthlink.net/~pjburt/gldbrclt1.jpg>click here</a>
<a href=http://home.earthlink.net/~pjburt/gldbrclt2.jpg>click here</a>
Is that a designers mark? or does it mean something like "Gold Content Insignificant"? (Dang my luck!) It is not gold, but could it be plated? Looks sort of Italian.
If anyone has a clue, would be most grateful to hear from you.
THANKS A SQUILLION!

Hi pj! I couldn't access those links you left. I sell fine jewelry a lot and was hoping to help. In my opinion, the hallmark C.G.I. is PROBABLY the manufacturer's. Is there anything else stamped on it that would indicate it is precious metal? If it is gold, plat, or silver there should be.
If not it might very well be plate or bond or fill...In other words, NOT solid 10k, 14k, or 18k gold.

HTML doesn't work here. You have to use $%^# UBB.

SHARKBABY: Thanks so much! Here is a corrected link - but you have to copy and paste the HTML, because I don't know how to talk UBB (whatever THAT is)!!

It doesn't have any other marks on it, and although it is cut in such a way that it flashes beautifully, when I look under a strong loupe, it just does not look like gold.
I sure do appreciate your taking the time to help me!

To insert a link here using UBB, you just put [ url ][ /url ]without the spaces. You have to use brackets and not those cute <> .
edited because withno spaces you get strange things!!!!

Glad I'm not the only one that doesn't really speak computer language. My brain is much too logical for all that!
It sure is an interesting (i.e. strange) design. The clasp is so different too, like something you might see from the middle east or something like that. Is it weighty? How many grams does the piece weigh? Maybe it's brass or brass plate...Heck, I dunno without seeing it in person. Did you pay much for it or was it a part of a large lot?
I'm full of questions, huh? I really love studying jewelry. I'm mostly a "fine jewelry" fan, though. This might be a high end costume piece from a very long time ago!

SULYN...SMW...
Thank you for your help with the links! I am glad to know this info!
SHARKBABY:
You are always so helpful!
The clasp is called a "lobster claw" - I never pay much for ANYTHING! It does not look very old - I seem to recall that chunky looking gold jewelry being part of the DISCO ERA Fashion look. I guess I better take it to a jeweler like you said, just to be safe.
Thanks again!

Hi pjburt. Not all jewelry is stamped with the karat gold content. It IS an FTC guideline (law) but it's not always followed. I can see just by the construction of the bracelet that it is most likely a "not-gold-by-the-inch" piece. As you can see, there are holes on each end where the jump ring is attached. On a fine jewelry item this is not the norm. The "nugget" design lends itself to the early 80's. Chain by the inch was most popular during this time. It is most likely plated.

In the second pic it looks like rust on the clasp. Gold wouldn't do that.

MORE THANKS!!!!!

Terrific! I put that in my description. I appreciate your taking the time to let me know that.

Fortunately the "rust" in the pic is not really there. Must have been a dirt spot on the glass of the scanner or something.
But I do thank your for your help!
I LOVE THIS BOARD!!!
