I have noticed within the last month or 2, that almost all of my buyers and people we've bought from have failed to leave us feedback, even after we've left it for them. I find that really irritating. especially since most of the time , i have no idea if the person was pleased or not.I guess if they were not pleased, they'd complain....
but we have left nearly 400 feedbacks, and have received a total of about 280, ( no negs, thank heavens!)
So, is it me??? are people waiting for a reason?
I leave feedback as soon as a payment arrives it helps with my auction management.

It seems to me that many of the newer ones don't bother. Either they are not aware of how the system is supposed to work or they don't care. I notice that a lot of these are the people that do not take the time (AND COURTESY!!) to respond to emails and acknowledge receipt of mdse or payments.
I just go ahead and do my part. I try not to concern myself over the lack of consideration on the parts of others. At least I know I did my part!

We have been selling a lot longer, and your ratio is about right - approximately 55% return on feedbacks. Don't ask me why the others don't respond, but they don't... We even have some regular customers who never leave feedbacks... I don't ask for them to leave feedbacks, I figure its up to them to make that decision...

I think it just goes with the territory. I recently checked on vrane and found that I had left 995 feedback comments, when I have received only 590- I think that's pretty common. It used to bother me a little when my feedback was much lower, but now even though it would be great to get a new color star, I don't really think bidders see much of a difference between a 600 feedback and a 900 feedback. After a certain point it doesn't much matter. I have even heard that some bidders are reluctant to bid on items where the seller is over a thousand because they feel they won't get personal service.
But, to answer your question, after all my rambling, I don't think it is just you!

I have left almost 400 feedbacks...I leave one for every transaction I have. I have 188 right now so there are about half of the transactions I've had, both buying and selling, that I don't have feedback for.

Stop leaving feedback first and you will get more, believe me. Leaving feedbacks is a waste of time, also give more chances to the other party to complain for anything, once they get theirs, they don't care about the rest.
I NEVER LEAVE FEEDBACK EVEN WHEN THEY ASK ME TO. Why? feedback is about transaction not not about payment, also if the buyer(s) decides to return it, I have to ask eBay for a refund of my listing, and I explain all this to the buyer. And why not, I also tell them, this is my business and anything happens to it will affect to me not you, so I will not risk it by leaving feedback first. What about customer service? Please give me a break, we are not eBay, AOL, Yahoo! or MSN forget about customer service, if the buyer gets what he expected they will understand how you work, and they won't care if they leave feedback first, they just will keep cooming back for more and more of your stuff, you have to be smart sometimes, I don't follow what others say about this about that. MY first Bideness rule is, BE EXTREMELY RUDE, being rude never affected my business in anyway, I'M EXTREMELY RUDE when they conplain for nothing. It's your business and should follow your heart. I NEVER EVER LEAVE FEEDBACK FIRST, I DID IN THE PAST, NOT ANYMORE!!! The world change, and you should change too. Buyers you want your feedback? NO PROBLEM, if you have good intention, leave first and I will do return the favor by leaving the same feedback, you know sellers will do that, otherwise keep waiting. If they insist, my answer is, feedback is about the whole transaction is not about the payment, please read eBay policies and rules.
EVERYTHING HAVE AN EVOLUTION.
Example: This may sound stupid of the stupidities, But everybody say, my child you have to be a profesional you have to study and be something in life. Something in life? What are you talking about? ...That advice was good 20 years ago, but not for these days, we are too many in the world, we are too many sellers on eBay, study for what? to be a seller, to be one more of the bunch? The ONLY profesion that really worths to study is if you want to be a doctor, no matter where you are at sea, in the air, or on earth you always be helpful, but forget about the other profesions.
I'm not American neither my family, but we have businesses in New York for 35 years and we do whatever we want with the "profesionals" that work for us. They studied at least for 4 years, then they work for us and/or for any other company for 5 years, and at the end they decide that they are tired of working for somebody else, but they already wasted almost 10 years of their life, and THAT'S THE REALITY OF LIFE. My advice is, You want to be successful in life? DON'T STUDY, WE ALREADY ARE TOO many BUT TOO MANY IN THIS WORLD, save those 4 years, and work hard, then open your won business, like my parents did 35 years ago.
How they succeded? BEING EXTREMELY RUDE, ABUSIVELY DRASTICALLY RUDE, not with regular customers, or with people who don't deserve it, BUT with those people who conplain 1% more of the necessary, and the Internet is full of those people. Once again, you are not AOL, AMAZON or YAHOO! you are a person selling stuff, BUT if you follow my advice you will ahead by 90% of your competitors EASILY, and people won't care they will come back for more and more. The best example is eBay itself, they are rude, uncoperative with sellers, etc. etc. But they are successful, AND THAT'S WHAT IT COUNTS, my FULL RESPECT TO THEM, that's what business is all about. If you come to eBay to be nice and friendly and make friends, YOU ARE IN THE WRONG BUSINESS, you will make tons of friends, BUT NOT BIG MONEY.
So, if you want to increase your feedback don't leave feedback first, use your common sense, the buyer won't leave any feedback until the received item is used for at least a couple months, they want to leave the door open if they want to complain, this door is closed as soon as they leave their positive feedback. That's how it works.

I always leave feedback--mostly positive, but will leave negatives and neutrals if warranted. It's not uncommon for others not to reciprocate. It doesn't do any good, I notice, to ask either. A lot of people just don't care.

Poton,
I see your point somewhat about people waiting to make sure that the item works, although 2months is a bit of a stretch. however, personally, the items i sell are things you'd know immediately if you were happy, ( clothes, used cd's records, and books.) this is what is pissing me off. the feedback system was not meant to be a you scratch mine and i'll scratch yours system. if the only reason a person leaves a pos. is because they got one , ditto for negs, then the whole system will become worthless.
if you are happy,or unhappy, take two seconds and let the users know, isnt that what the feedback system is for?

I can remember people complaining about only getting 50% feedback from many moons past.
It's normal.
I leave 100% positive feedback for anyone who doesn't make me grovel for my money. Either when they tell me the item arrived, or 30 days after I mailed it, whichever comes first. I figure if they're upset, I would have heard from them in under 30 days.
If you jerk me around, even if you eventually pay, you get nothing.

I find a lot of new buyer are not aware of how to leave feedback. I viewed my feedback left and found several of them responded to feedback. In that case I emailed them and instructed them how to use feedback forum, it worked. Most all thanked me.
Ok, if you are desperately for feedback, you have to start giving some kind of bonus. That's how I increased my profile. If you toilet paper you have to send them a soap, if you sell books you have to send them a cheap bookmarker. Have you seen those people selling a million dollar bills? Buy a bunch and send it to your buyer telling them here's your change They will find it funny and will be more than glad to leave you feedback.

Well I just found out first hand that there are a lot of newbies who don't know how to leave feedback. Someone just emailed me wanting to know how to leave me feedback because they were so happy with their item
So that could explain a lot of the no feedback issue.

Verrry interesting thread. I always leave feedback, and I have about an 85% return. But now I'm tipped off that newbies may not know how to do it, so I think I'll add a sentence when I mail my check for an item I've bought, or when I send an item I sell, to tell them how to get to feedback.
I was really eager to get to my 100 star but now that I have, I'm more laid back about it. I figure that now I look pretty creditable as a seller or buyer--and it is true about the high FB people--my impression (faulty though it may be)is that they don't care as much about the little people anymore. That they are more impersonal in their dealings. Sometimes their auctions look so professional and slick that it worries me! That's probably unfair--but I'm a littttle leery of dealing with power sellers! -- Adele

I have about a 73% return ratio. I always leave feedback for buyers when their MO or PayPal arrives and when their checks clear. When I send out the email letting them know the package has been shipped I also mention that I have left them feedback and I hope they will do the same when the package arrives. I have had a few newbies question me on the feedback process and I always walk them through it. I also leave negatives and neutrals when the transactions are less than good.

Last week a friend of mine sold a very rare Beatles LP on eBay. The item brought a few thousand dollars and was purchased by a collector who had been in pursuit of the item for years, if not decades. Upon receipt of the LP, he wrote a very gracious thank you, but to date, has not left feedback.

As a seller, I post feedback as soon as payment arrives. I also send a note saying "Thank you for your bid I have left positive feedback for you on eBay. If you are happy with your purchase and would like to leave feedback for me, my user ID is: [email protected]". Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I'm happy with my feedback rating, so I don't worry too much if they don't leave feedback

I do, I am getting better, I used to worry over it, but heck, why not play the game.
And I use feedback to go through sellers auctions, especially ones I can't follow all the time with watch. So I mine their auctions using my feedback....so if they don't leave me feedback they fall off my radar.
Plus, I like leaving the really good folks the good feedback.
If I love service, an item or just the packaging is great, why not say so?
I know ebay is devolving into a mall, and a lot of sellers have "burnt fingers" (Sophia Loren in "Houseboat" ) but what the heck, eh?
Were not all deadbeats, us bidder types!
