Ok, since I've been here for a little while I have to admit to (just today!!) getting my first PayPal payment on a stolen credit card. Am bummed for sure, but trying to get something out of it. (i.e. a lesson well learned!!)
Ok, I'm not too trusting anyway, but I made a decision and it was the wrong one which now has costed me over $100 because of some a**hole that fleeced me with a stolen card.
Just wanted to tell my story because I spend so much time here that I feel a part of this community...**sigh**

HI sharkbaby,
What happened to the buyer you did ship to an address is there any recourse from that? I am curious as I take paypal and have so far thank goodness had no chargebacks. Did you report that name and address to anyone? Interested in your story. More please.

I am so sorry, on Valentine's Day too..[sad]
I want to learn your lesson without having to give up a hundred dollars, so might I ask for more details?
I cringe now everytime I get a paypal without a verified shipping address, and I have shipped one hundred dollar item to someone without a verified shipping address, but I have promised myself to only do that for small dollar amounts in the future.

Ok, first of all, thanks for being gentle!!! I just am not ready for any harsh criticism at this point.
Here's the lesson: Don't EVER accept a credit card payment from someone who does not have their address verified on PayPal! I did because I ended up believing the B.S. story that he had just registered & was purchasing the piece as a gift...yadda yadda yadda. And he needed to have it delivered quickly. My bad & I will not let that happen again. By and large, I believe PayPal is a safe and convenient way to receive credit card payments but, from now on, will remain WELL WITHIN THE guidelines for safe receipt of credit card payment & hope for the best. I have been with them for almost a year with no problem, buying or selling, and this time I made the wrong decition. Live & Learn!!

I too am a Paypal fan, and I do belive that with the new policy changes, that as long as we stay in the guidelines we do have a great deal of protection.
I get lots of small paypals without verified address - for less than $20.00, and I just take that chance, but from now on that is my limit, anything more than that, and I will only ship to the varified address!
It is a painful lesson for you, one that I intend to learn from, thanks so much for sharing it with me.

I am truly pleased to help someone else because I feel so affronted (sp?) by this that I can only hope that someone doesn't get bitten by a s**thead like this! That is my main purpose here. I am a seller & buyer with eBay for almost 2 years with excellent feedback and a work ethic that reflects that. I must admit that, when I received the email telling me of the stolen credit card scenario, I emailed this *ickhead & told him what I thought. But that's what I had to do to feel better about it. No harm, no foul there! I just want others, especially those new to accepting credit card payments, to know the possible consequences of not heeding the "verified address" thing! Thanks for your sentiment and do be careful! It can be a sucky world out there and everybody is not trustworthy like you and I are!

If he's still registered on ebay, why not pull his contact info and give him a lil' phone call? I would also send him a letter, return receipt, with a CC to his local police department, demanding that he pay his debt in full.

Good idea, Julesy! Thanks for the suggestion! He's only (theoretically) in southern California which is not that far from me. (I'm in Northern Nevada). Would like to get some satisfaction. I did send him a scathing email calling him a jerk & an a**hole for burning me (like he cares!!) but it made me feel better. I told him that I saved all his emails (which is true) and the matter has gone to the FBI (which is speculative) and I hope he ends up in the slammer with plenty of time to think about burning me and the person that he stole the credit card from. Ok, chances are he doesn't give a s**t about that but I needed to plant that seed anyway to make me feel some redemption.

tc61380: Tough call cuz you know they don't give a s**t about ripping you off. otherwise they wouldn't have done it. Sorry you had to deal with that crap. I sure do feel for ya tho!!! Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I sent an email do the *ickhead and told him what I thought because I felt I had to, but I'm sure that kind thing makes little impression on someone who lives to screw innocent strangers, but WHATEVER! I do wish you well! shark
What I chose to say was exactly how I felt about how C.S. it was of him to burn me and, like I mentioned earlier, how the case was being investigated that he would be caught and treated as the c.s. a**hole that he was, etc...Might not make any impression, but it made me feel better!

The only funny thing about this situation is that I can't figure out all your swear word abbreviations. (CS? customer service? only fits in certain PayPal situations)
Other than that, please remember you are dealing with a criminal. Let the police handle it. Don't confront him/her on your own or give them any reason to retaliate. Safety first, please.
I know how you feel, though. I am not a very good victim. I used to work in a job where I averaged 3 death threats per year because I took on the baddies and wouldn't back down. My husband worried all the time---for the bad guys! Now I just stay home, bake cookies and fiddle around with Ebay....no threat to anyone----unless they actually eat the cookies.

Yes don't act bad with someone who has no conscience unless you can make it happen.
I had one bad boy say not to tell anyone where to find him or he would find me. LOL.
I just said you don't WANT to find me.
