Roadsmith: Auction Watch is usually pretty up-to-date on it's category numbers. You can do a check on the category numbers at this url: (Just be patient while the page loads, it's a biggie
Here are the current AW category numbers for autographs#50) General
(#3900) Historical
(#883) Political
(#3901) Science
(#62) Sci-Fi
(#1346) Space
And yes, eBay does change the numbers. They also change the categories. It's all part of their plot they are hatching to categorize every single item ever produced in the whole, entire world. Plot involves such diabolical twists as changing numbers frequently, assigning numbers that have no logical sequence, etc.
A big part of the plot involves creating so many categories that you will have to list your item in at least 7,439 of them to have even a minimal chance of a prospective customer finding your listing. But hey, at 25 cents per category eBay's finally onto something BIG! Either that or they're just trying to prove that some staff members can at least count past number 2!

Wedgewood: Thanks! I'm still puzzled by the apparent change in the numbers, but I guess I'm learning to trust AW category numbers over what I've gotten from ebay in the past--or something.

I am fairly new to ebay and their category numbers boggle the mind. The category numbers have no logical sequence whatever. For example, the barware categories are (#3269)General and (#3273) Shotglasses
Now wedding dresses are #3268 and ther is no #3274 So we go from wedding dresses right into barware as far as category numbers go. Kinda makes me wonder what they are reserving #3270, 3271 and 3272 for? Does anyone at ebay know anything about cataloging systems? Seems like they have a pretty screwball system to me!
