I won an auction for a book on 2/1. I paid with Paypal on 2/1. I got a shipping notice on 2/12. My mail just came, today is 2/16. I still haven't gotten the book. The book was shipped from New Orleans, I live in a Suburb about 10 miles outside of New Orleans.
Now I know that many people believe that if you get the product and it is in the condition advertised you shouldn't leave negative feedback. BUT I'm MIFFED! Over 16 days to get a book from less than 20 miles away is just outrageous. Or am I just being unreasonable?

Did the seller actually state that they SHIPPED the item on the 12th? It's possible that they had shipped it before that, and were just late in sending shipment notifications. The seller may have also waited until the Paypal funds showed up in their bank account before shipping. (When using Paypal you have to protect yourself against everything possible). Did the seller state how long before they would ship the item in the auction?
If it was mailed by Media Mail (aka Book Rate) I've heard sometimes it takes the USPS a very long time to deliver those packages. That part the seller has no control over.

The seller should have shipped it within 2 days of receiving your payment. If he/she did that, they are not at fault. It could be they sent it book rate - book rate is slow (2 weeks is the average amount of time) so in that case its a postal problem not the seller's fault.

To receive a shipping notice on the 12th, 11 days after you paid PayPal seems rather extended. Has your seller advised what method they shipped it by? A $3.50 shipping means nothing! I have run across so many sellers whose shipping costs are very deceptive in making you THINK it's Priority.
If the book is shipped via media or book rate, it still can take time going across town.

I would wait until I received the book and could check out the postmark. I wouldn't hold it against the seller if the P.O. sat on it. If the seller waited, however, I wouldn't blame you for being miffed. Does the TOS say anything about how quickly they ship?
BTW, last month I recieved a payment by paypal and promptly forgot it. Didn't realize until over a week later that I hadn't mailed the book. I emailed the buyer, appologized, and upgraded her bookrate shipping to priority at my expense. Maybe it was an honest oversight and your seller is too chicken to admit it and/or is hoping you won't notice.

Even the USPS doesn't take 4 day to ship less than 20 miles.
And secondly waiting 10 days for an electronic payment is ridiculous.
My opinion is that unless the seller notified you of some reason for the delay in shipping, I'd at least leave a neg - and if the book isn't delivered by Monday, I'd ask for proof that they mailed it - (receipt - whatever!)

It would be nice to know how the seller sent it. It would also be nice if he seller could prove to you that the package had been sent. If sent by UPS there would be a tracking number. If the seller sent it by USPS at book rate they were probably given a computer receipt that shows the zip code shipped to and time and date shipped.
There could be a lot of reasons the package has not been delivered: mail can be slow, packages can get lost, postal workers can get lazy or confused, sellers can make little mistakes on the address shipped to, etc...
I have had buyers go to the post office and inquire and find out that their package was sitting on a post office self not delivered because of different kinds of reasons. It may be worth a visit to your local post office.

The post office has a way to give you a receipt to which zip code you sent to? My receipts are never like that when I use Media Mail, or anything else for that matter. They simply say how much I spent, individual amounts and how many packages I sent. There is no trace of a zip code or anything on it. Is it something you have to request?

THANKS everyone for the opinions. He did ship it book rate and here's what his email said that I got on the 12th:
Subject: Re: Auction Item(s) shipped!
Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 19:12:28 -0600
Just a note to let you know that your auction item(s) will be shipped to you tonight by the method specified. If it was to be sent via book rate, please allow up to 4-6 weeks for delivery. If via priority mail, it should arrive within 2-3 days.....
I go to the post office almost every day to mail my own auction items, so I asked the clerk how long I should expect to wait for a package shipped to me from New Orleans that was sent book rate. She looked up the farthest New Orleans Zip and came up with 2 days.

pcalton ~ Not all post offices have the system that gives a receipt with the zip code on it. The post offices where I live just got those new systems - and there are other post offices near me who are still using the old systems - and those receipts don't tell you anything but your totals. Only the newest systems give you the zip code your item went to, how much it weighed, and if it was international they tell you what country they were sent to.

LOL pacoferrone! I just read your reply. Actually I'm in the only one that I think you missed, Harvey. But I agree even if he mailed it on the 13th I should have gotten it by now.
I guess I wouldn't have been so peeved if his shipping notice had an apology and an explanation as to why it took 12 to 13 days to mail.
The auction itself did not state a delivery time frame.

ExecutiveGirl, thanks for that information. I didn't stop to think that some post offices have not yet converted.
