Ah, yes, the old dilemna:
2 copies of the same edition of an old and rare magazine. Which one to sell?
issue 1) excellent condition EXCEPT for a 1 1/2 inch long scuff right in the middle of the front cover!
issue 2) excellent condition EXCEPT that the spine is extremely worn (not separated, but a lot of tiny little wear holes all along the spine--and if you look at it from inside the front cover, you can see light through it).

Depends on the collector I suppose --
My opinion --
I guess I'd prefer to buy #2. I do like to read old magazines, but I typically only read them once. Then they go into a mylar bag, either into a storage box or out somewhere in my apartment for display. Since it'll spend more time with me displayed in a sealed bag, an unscuffed cover would be of more value to me than a sturdier spine.
But I'm sure there's others who would feel just the opposite.

I'd also say #2. I would think most collectors would prefer to have a nice clean undamaged cover. It is hard to find old magazines that don't have some spine damage.

triplesnack: Great point.
paintpower: It is hard to find old mags with undamaged spines---which makes this a more difficult choice!
When deciding which to sell and which to keep, I have always wondered about the degree of flaw severity and how it impacts value.
