Hey. I just picked up the free cuecat barcode scanner from Radio Shack B&M (Brick & Mortar). With a free program called CatNip installed, I don't need to type in my delivery confirmation number ever again! Any little thing to help me get the package quickly to my customers!

So, how did you get the free wand? Do you just go in and ask or is there a coupon?

Me @ Radio Shack:
"Excuse me, do you have any cuecats?"
Sales Person:
"Let me check. [Looks under his counter] Here you go."
I even got a receipt, amount: $0.00

My only question is what do they get for giving it away free? Either Radio Shack or CatNip have to get something out of it, Or I am really cynical today. TANSTAAFL

Wow! Cool application! I saw the CueCat in an ad flyer but wondered how one could use it in a productive way. You are supposed to be able to scan any UPC code in your house and get info from the web on the company, product, availability, etc. But I never thought about it just reading in the DC numbers.

If you go to the Radio Shack site, you'll see what the cuecat was originally intended for. Catnip makes it usable as a standard barcode reader instead of using it for cuecat's original use intent.
I just found catnip off a google search of "Open Source cuecat Software Drivers"

Thanks for the tip! I'm picking one up in the morning. So, does it work good? Slow down your computer at all?

$10 shipped from the cuecat company. The link above also has a Radio Shack (RS)locator. See if your local RS has one for you.
I just used it to scan in a DC slip. Works quick for me. I have a fast computer (525mhz x 2) running win2k, so your results may vary.

Sun818 So, are you scanning the DC into a software program and adding into the invoice that you've shipped to the customer? Thanks for the tip too! Much apreciated.

Has something changed, or is the cuecat still grabbing info from your computer back to the company? When they first started handing them out last year. I picked one up, but didn't install it, since so many said it was a "collector" of info. At the time I had some sites you could go to that told you how they did it, but didn't hold on to them, since I decided not to put it on my system. It was a big deal at the time Radio Shack first started handing these out, and everyone was talking about them.
