Is it ok to have a link to your website on your auction listings where you sell the same items that you are selling on Ebay? I thought this was illegal? Yet, I have seen several cases of this lately. Isn't that just a way to avoid Ebay fees? Does anyone know Ebay's policies on this? Thanks!

Yes, and No! Some do this to try to avoid fees, but I personally do it and have for years, not to avoid fees, but to share with those visiting my auctions, to know that I do have a web site with other items they might be interested in.

The rule I believe is basically if you post your web site, and it has the same item that you are auctioning that the item on your web site has to be more expensive than the auction item.

Personally, I think it is a trade off, eBay asks us to link our web sites to their auction, why not the other way around? I advertise for eBay and feel that they too should help advertise for me.

I never even though about "fee avoidance," till it was brought up in the last year or so......

Personally, I wouldn't turn in anyone for this unless it was totally obvious as to what they were doing. I think there is enough back biting, and Nazi tactics on eBay between dealers without adding more....such actions have basically ruined Yahoo.

Outside of Porn where children can see it, I wouldn't basically turn in anyone to eBay - it is eBay's site, eBay has too many strangling rules now, and they don't pay me to patrol it. Let eBay do their own patrolling.

One way I have seen people incorporate their website into their eBay listing is to change their user ID to their dotcom address.

Another is to list your website in the location section.

I'm not sure what I think of these tactics but it does make it very handy and visible for buyers to check things out on a website if they are so inclined.

I must be totally naive, I would never have though of doing either, although I wouldn't consider changing my user ID as I have had it since 1996; but I would consider putting my web site in the location place, although I do think this might get a reaction from eBay.
