Cookies associated with these ads are responsible for it my opinion for 95% of the spam I get. After doing a lot of backtracking it is not to hard to figure out where it came from {spam}. Easy enough to stop.
What I'm looking for is information on a cookie that messes with your dial-up program. A fun and games type thing. We had this problem where the damn thing would dial 911 and hang up. Well anyhow the cops thought is was funny once, they lose humor quickly. ISP was baffled said modem had to be bad. Famous computer maker said it was in the mother board. Major phone company stopped 911 calls and the police, they wave when they see me. They thought I was a wife beater. That would be the other way around. I've been working on this for eight months. The computer don't dial 911 any more it still dials wrong number.
Three days ago I found it hiding as a ISP file. Also found among cookies. To clarify what I said above it still dials wrong number after starup when the system is cold so part of this program must be hiding somewhere. I tried tracing the installer but access was denied. What I would like to know is ther anybody out there that has had this problem. I Have a routing number it comes up invalid. Done all kinds of virus checks does not show. Any body know about this cookie and can it hide itself elsewhere it your computer.

Since I installed Norton's Firewall I don't have that problem. Maybe an occasional solicitation from these freaks of nature that get everybody's email addr on an isp, but no more tracking from pages that I click on or websites.

"Note that these subdirectories are created with the "hidden" attribute, so if you want to see if they exist on your system you must configure the Find command to show hidden directories. "
Turn on the "show all" files and look for any directories and files that should not be there.
It's a virus ... update your virus detection program and check your system again.

Thanks for the reply sharkbaby We ran all types of virus detection programs and ours is up to date. Firewall tested safe and sound there. This program, virus whatever it is came from Indonesia which puts Meya on the right track. It is a program to call Singapore phone sex.
I have a couple questions. For one I would never pay 49.99 a minute for it. And two I don't visit porn sites how did it get there.
Well anyway got rid of the problem hopefully found it hiding in a DR. Watson file also. Also found 19 unknowns by searches through files. They contain the following information.
[q]"The url &url; could not be opened because content type &content; is not known. The content handler does not exist or could not be located.
Message:
&message;"[/q]
Do I need to delete these files also and also is it possible for this to have been introduced when I made the dial up connection with my ISP. Looking at these unknowns it is starting to look that way.
edited because computers drive me crazy

MIke -
Delete the files.
You might have been infected by clicking on an attachment in your email, or downloading and installing a trojan horse (useful program concealing a harmful one). If you use MSIE or Outlook, there are ways to plant these things so that merely opening the message executes tha attachment, without alerting the virus protector. Download the upgrades to MSIE and Outlook for better protection.
IF you have kids, especially male ones of the teenage kind, they might have clicked on a few banner ads they shouldn't have.
