I'm currently writing a book about marketing products online with auctions. Part of my research involves talking to online auction users, of course, because there really is no better resource for information.
I hope nobody considers it an intrusion if I ask questions here from time to time. (What that really means is, I NEED YOUR HELP!) I've had a lot of input from the folks at OTWA and I'd love some input from online auction sellers here, too.
The question I have now is, how do you determine your target market, and how do you reach them? If you sell toys, for instance, do you tailor your auction descriptions (and auction titles) to appeal to the parents who buy them? If so, how? With colorful ads or terms and phrases you know will catch their eye?
What about those of you who sell clothing? Do you design your auction ads to be appealing to whoever your market is?
Have you ever checked out your competition (other sellers of the same or similar products) to see what they're up to?
Or, do you not care about targeting anyone, as long as your products sell? (I'm sure any seller would happily sell to any qualified high bidder. The question here is about attracting bidders.)
Thanks in advance. If I can quote you by name, please email me your response ([email protected]) and include your first and last name.
