Hello! I have 2 pencil sharpeners with faces on them. They looks some sort of characters that should have names, does anyone know who they are/were?

Thank you!

I'm probably totally off here...but they reminded me of the Seven Dwarfs from Snow White.

I collect pencil sharpeners. Look like composition from Germany. Probably 1930s. They might be Japanese repros from the 1950s though. Never seen characters like those before. Very cool.

Thanks for the help so far! I don't think they are the dwarfs, I checked a Snow White book and it shows the drawfs with beards (although that just might be my version).

I actually have 6 sharpeners altogether (dogs, people, and these 2 faces) and they all seem to made of the same material - feels like pottery, but not sure, one is chipped on the side and the "pottery" underneath is dark pink - so not sure what it is.

Thank again!

To me they look like early cartoon characters.. the one on the top reminds me of one of the pirates from Disney's Peter Pan!

I've seen these faces before, I just can't remember what they were called. I'll ask my dad and see if he knows.

Oh you youngsters! The guy with the top hat is Wimpy from Popeye! " I will gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today!"

The first character might be a Japanese version of Popeye. Good Luck!

I'd go with Snap, Crackle and Pop.

When I do a search for Wimpy on ebay I find that he has a much fatter rounder face.

Snap, Crackle and Pop look a bit younger and they all have more hair.

still checking I know they were in a book my grandma had when I was a little girl. very old characters. I think they're all out of print (the stories). They had weird names. I'm calling my mom later this week and I'll have her see if she can find the book. My mom had read the book when she was a little girl which was back in the 50s/60s. She's almost 50.

Don't know who they are, but NO WAY is that Wimpy (remember, he had a moustache) and they really look nothing like Snap, Crackle and Pop (despite the little pointy hat), unless they're some very early version (which I doubt--I was a kid in the 1950's).

I grew up in the 1950's-60's. I would bet the cat that these characters are earlier. They look like 1930's to me. Gee..I know for sure I am as old as dirt now.

My mom is going to look for the book tomorrow. She says it was my Grandma's book before her when she was a child back in the 20s/30s. I'll let you know what else I find out

What exactly do we call old????

I had a 16YOA boy working for me who found an "old" coin in the change drawer.

He said it was from the 50's. I told him that was not an old coin. To be old it had to be from the 20's. My Dad, who was standing nearby said the 20's wouldn't make it an old coin it would have to be before 1900!

I had an older woman in the store looking to buy herself a new rod and reel. She turned around and stated a 1900 coin is not old either. Turns out she had been born in 1898.

So I guess "old" is relative to where you are on the timeline.

Well, I can't find 'em either. They do look familiar though. I'm gonna guess them to be from the 20's or 30's. The top one does look very Dwarf-like and the bottom one looks kind of Betty Boopish. Possibly cartoon or comic strip characters from the late 20's to early 30's. Sorry, that's as close as I can get.

They could be the 2 dwarfs that did not make it to Snow White....

They remind me a lot of Fleischer Studios charactors. Maybe Lulliputains from the Gullivers Travels 1930s feature. But I can't find any pictures to verify it - it was just a hunch.

OK, I have the answer

These are original depictions of Peter Pan. The first image is Smee and the second is one of the boys. The book is copyrighted 1929.
