I have three boxes of religious books of all kinds, inherited from ministers in the family. Is there any site where these can be sold? And what about church music books? I'm afraid that if I just dump them I'll go to hell. . . . --Adele

I did well with mine on half.com. I sold about 30 books on there, all religious. Also have done well on ebay with some too. Just my 2cents here.

Several kinds of books sell nicely on eBay:
1. Missionary history, especially the foreign ones.
2. Scarce theology classics
If the books were free to you, list them with a starting bid of $9.99, a good description, and see what happens

Many religious books go begging pricewise and few ever go for 9.99 or more in my experience unless it is a classic or an important theological reference work. Some extremely good books you literally can't give away and others sell quite well.
If you aren't sure what a book sells for, check out Bibliofind. Generally, the eBay starting mark is no more than half of the lowest price you find there.

I have had moderate success with selling hymnals in eBay. I generally start them at $2 and see what happens. Sometimes I have gotten $10 or more for them and then, on the other hand, I have taken them to Goodwill in the end.
I am sitting here looking at a box full of religious books that I tried to sell individually and then as a box lot. Tomorrow they are going to Goodwill.
You just never know.

I recommend placing them in the Homeschool category - many folks who homeschool their children are more likely to find the need for religious books, IMHO. The speciality stores that supply texts suited for homeschool usually gouge the pocketbooks of their buyers (a very select audience) so they are always looking for books at less of an exhorbitant markup but also are willing to pay top dollar if it meets their needs

Antiquealley: I have a followup question: Some of these religious books are books that ministers used to prepare sermons--and they don't seem to me to be what children would be using or needing in a home school situation. I'll take your advice and look at that selling site; I didn't know there was such a site. Do you have any thoughts on where to unload books that wouldn't be appropriate for home schooling, other than what's been recommended here?
And thanks for your advice! --Adele

If they are bible study type references, they belong in religion. Try a local church for whatever doesn't sell. If you get real stuck on some item or two I would be happy to help you with it as I move a fair amount of this sort of thing

Thanks, mballai. I may take you up on your offer. Many of the books are by famous ministers and include their sermons. I'll tackle this in a day or two, and you may be hearing from me! --Adele

You might try Baker Bookhouse in Grand Rapids, MI. They used to buy entire libraries from retired ministers and deceased minister's families. If you want I can dig around and see if I can come with a phone number for you.
