Hello, I posted many items last week with the BUY IT NOW feature for the first time. I was delighted to wake up the next morning and find that $760. worth of merchandise had sold immediately with BUY IT NOW.
However, I was disappointed to see that once a buyer places a bid on the BUY IT NOW item, the BUY IT NOW feature is no longer available. This I do not understand. Why did EBAY set it up this way? Wouldn't it be better to continue the BUY IT NOW feature until the item reaches the BUY IT NOW price?
One person bid on sixteen of my items that had BUY IT NOW feature. His bids did not reach the reserve yet, and because he placed those bids, no one can purchase the items with BUY IT NOW. This seems unfair.
Any one have thoughts on this? thanks!

I have to agree 100% with this. just because the 1st bidder didn't want to ante up to the Buy It Now price doesn't mean that the next guy won't! The way eBay set this up just doesn't make sense. This aside, both as a buyer and a seller, I love Buy It Now.

Simple: Don't use reserve prices, they are for wimps.
Make it no reserve and have a shill account set up just in case.

Actually it makes perfect sense. eBay is first and foremost an AUCTION site. If a bidder wants to take a chance that the bidding will end at a lower price then the BIN price then they can bid and turn it into an auciton.
If you don't want an auction, then maybe you should try another site. I belive Yahoo leaves the take it now price after a bid.

Certainly considering Buy It Now, but is there a fee for this now?

beman,
No fee right now. Try it out. I've been selling some stuff with it. Auction closes early if person uses it.
At first, I'd come home from my "real" job, see an auction ended, and freak because I'd thought I'd made some mistake. Why did the auction end early? Because some wonderful buyer came along and used "Buy It Now" and my lovely widget is sold! Not only that, I find many who have used the feature to buy the item used Paypal right away. Not only do I have a sale when I get home, I have funds to transfer to my checking account!
Way faster way to do business! The downside is eBay WILL start charging for it later...

I love the Buy It Now feature. I agree 95% of BIN buyers puse Paypal right away.

This feature works 2 ways for me.
I will put a buy it now price on my item much higher than the starting bid, BUT my starting bid is what I want for the item. So, if someone bids on the item just to cancel out the buy it now price trying to get a deal and cut anyone else from buying it now I LOVE IT ! I even end the auctions sometimes and this really throws them off !
RESERVES ?????
HAHAHAHAHA
I am a seller. I want to sell items. I do not want to watch items to see if "my hidden price" is met. I WOULD NEVER USE A RESERVE !

I won't bid on a reserve auction so why would I sell that way? Life is too short to play games trying to find out what you can buy something for I don't have the time or patience to play that game.

My favorites are the auctions that start at 1.00 but the reserve is 250.00. Why not just say you want 250.00 for it? Save everyone a lot of trouble.
I love BIN. I've bought a lot of stuff with it. I can buy, billpoint, and go to bed happy.

Well, I love BUY IT NOW too. I love watching my items sell before the entire seven days is over. I try to use BUY IT NOW prices that reflect what I believe the item is really worth. it works!
I still don't understand why EBAY insists on cancelling the BUY IT NOW feature just because someone decides to bid on the item. any ideas?
also, anyone have an idea of what EBAY plans to charge for this service? Will you sellers continue to use the BUY IT NOW feature if EBAY charges a lot for it? What would you pay for it? I'd pay 25 cents!
