I have a friend who uses another service for her automatic winning bid notices, and since eBay's change yesterday where there is a new procedure for contacting people, her notices are suddenly NOT going through. I haven't had any auctions end since the change, but I'm wondering if AW is ready ahead of time, or if we are going to have the same problem.

Anyone know??

Update - anyone whose user ID on eBay is the same as their email address, those notices are not going through using the Andale services.

I hope AW checks into this before it comes up.

I read the announcement on eBay's Announcement board, but I am still not clear about sellers who use their e-mail address as their ID. I personally have used my e-mail address as my ID since 1996, and have no intention of changing it unless forced to.

Regarding eBay's changes, I don't see that they are going to "force" me to change.

Am I reading their announcement correct?

I use eBud and sent some announcements out last evening, which obviously went through as I have received responses to them.

I agree, the announcement says nothing about forcing you to change your current ID if it's the same as your email address. But users who want to contact you will still get a form to fill out if they click on your ID. I still don't get why Andale wouldn't be able to send automatic notification forms to winners where their email is the same as their User ID, but that does seem to be the case. Hmmmmm. Has anyone had auctions end yet where this is the case while using AW?

Staying at Home,
I had an auction end over 3 weeks ago, and had a non paying bidder. After many contact attempts, I finally let eBay know yesterday. My normal procedure is to give the runner up bidder the first option of purchasing the item at their high bid or even lower, because they were bidding against the high bidder who wont pay up. Normally I notify eBay of the non paying bidder, and if the runner up accepts the deal, when the 10 days are up, I only request the charges that eBay charges on the difference of the price actually purchased and the winning bid price. This seems fair to me, and I don't have to work on the relisting, and paying double the charges and taking the chance of having to accept a lower bid the second time around. Plus, my wait time could be up to 60 days just waiting on payment. Is it really fair to buyers to have to take that method to get their items sold? I do not feel the new policy is in our best interest, just in eBay's best interest, wanting more money. Alot of people don't take the time to make sure that eBay has refunded them or not. This is to eBay's best interest. I really would rather delete a few spams, than to have a company take complete control over me and my business. Let me keep my business in well oiled working order, I am not a child. buddman29

So are you saying that the seller is now unable to contact the other bidders in the auction in the case of your example, to offer the item to the second highest bidder?

If that's the case, I completely agree with you, we should be able to do that!

My question is, can we put our email address on our own auction now? If so, I am going to have a big fat bold email address on the top of all my auctions and suggest everyone doing the same thing. I hate spam, but I also hate bidders having to go through loops to email me. That still does not solve our problem of having to contact them.

I just tried it, and you can contact the second highest bidder, you just have to use Ebay's form to do so. Is there a disadvantage for us with this new form? I can't see it yet.

I am adding my email address to all of my listings, too. I don't think eBay can possibly stop us from doing that.

Also, why doesn't someone figure out the HTML language to put in a button so potential bidders can just click on the button to email us???

That should work!

eBay's policy is to see if there are deals being made behind their back. They are afraid that the buyer and seller may make an additional deal on the side for a different item that has not been listed yet. They have control of what is sent back and forth, they say for our protection, however, I might think differently. Lisa

stayingathome,

This is the HTML that I am using in my auctions for an email button:
<p>Got a question? <a href="mailto:YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS">Click Here </a> to send me an e-mail.</p>
Just take out YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS and replace it with the email address that you want the questions sent to.
