An auction of mine ended with high bidder with 200+ feedback, but 6 recent negatives for non-payment. When he had not paid me after 16 days I filed the fvf alert and offered & sold item to 2nd highest bidder. Today I got his money order in the mail. Apparently he mailed it the day he got the fvf alert. My question is: I'm going to return his money order, but do I need to send it registered mail so I'll have proof he received it, or can I just send it regular mail. I'm not sure it matters but it's not a USPS money order, it's from a place called Hugos that I've never heard of.

Hmm.. even if you sent it by registered mail (return receipt), there's no proof that what he received IN that envelope was the money order.

So, you could probably just send it back regular 1st class mail. And maybe you could write VOID on it so no one else could cash it. He could return it from where he received it from and get his money back from it.

I'm just not very knowledgeable about money orders. You are sure that if I write VOID on it he can still go get his money back from it?

Email your bidder and see if he still has the receipt section of the money order. If he does, then I'd think you could mark the MO void and mail it back, and he could take it and his receipt and get his refund.

OR you could just cash the money order and write him a check for his refund. BTW, I definitely would send his refund so that he would have to sign for it (certified or whatever).
