This is just to bring up an option in AW.
If a particular poster's posts bother you for whatever reason -- my particular reason, but not the only one, is poor spelling, grammar, and punctuation, then click on the link that brings you to his or her profile. There is another link to IGNORE ALL POSTS BY THIS PERSON.
I will admit that I've used it to ignore certain people for my own sanity. My proofreader inside my head goes nuts, and I want to send an email explaining spelling errors. This was never a good thing.
Just thought I'd bring it up.

Hey, Paulswife, thanks! I didn't know that was there. (I just clicked on the poster's name in the left margin, for those who wonder.)
Wouldn't it be *great* to have something in writing about *all* the options available on AW? Why do we keep hearing about them in a piecemeal way?!? --Adele

Thanks Adele and Greg for the rest of the info. It's always nice when we help each other out.
I'm just a curious person, so I click on anything that looks like a link.

OK here's a question, once you have someone on ignore, how do you "un-ignore" them?
When I first started about a year ago, I was messing around and clicked on the ignore button on a poster and haven't heard from him since!!!
Anyway to undo it?

Try doing a Site Search for the ID you placed on ignore (remember to check the Message Center Box). When you find a post, click on the ID again and then select the click here option to view the previous ignored posts.
At least, I *think* that will work. As much as we wish we could, utilising the "ignore" feature just isn't an option for the Mods .

Or, when you put someone on IGNORE, remember the title of the topic. Then go back to it; next to the name of the person you are "ignoring", there will be a reminder that "you are now ignoring this poster; click to view post"...Click on it, and bingo, he/she reappears. If that person still bugs you, click on his/her name again and click on IGNORE once more....
I love that feature. Bad spelling or grammar are a little annoying, but are nothing compared to nastiness...

Thanks Michelle- I tried that and either that user has changed their ID or I wiped them out of existance when I hit that ignore button! Teach me to mash buttons, I know nothing about!
Actually, I did figure out how to use it, thanks to Michelle and Shosh! However, the one and only person I every put on ignore haspermanently vanished! I know I searched for the right ID because that user was using the one I had wanted when I first joined!

if you want to email the ID to me at [email protected] I can let you know if they are still an active participant .
You still won't be able to have that ID, but it at least you'll know if they are still posting.

Just my opinion here, but isn't it sad when a poster's contribution has to be ignored just because s/he didn't have the opportunity (for whatever reason) to have a good education, or maybe is learning disabled!

kyriaki,
Yes it would be sad if that's all I based my opinion on. It isn't. In my original post, I said, "... my particular reason, but not the only one... ." When I read posts from these same people who complain about poor sales and bidding and offer up their ebay userid and/or websites, I look at them. Their auctions and website are just crammed full of spelling errors and such. Other people have suggested to them, in threads, that they use a spell checker or a dictionary. The response? "Theirs nothing wrong with my speling."
I think ignorance has a lot to do with the poor spellers I've ignored. Ignorance of help that is offered when asked, and ignorance of learning when there is not a disability. I didn't have the best education, but I did learn by my mistakes.
I also ignore out the nasty posters as well.

edited to fix my spelling and to emphasize that my quote from the misspellers was in quotes already.

Paulswife,
Relax your proof reader.
It's easy to misspell words. Even you have misspelled words in your
message. For example,
Theirs nothing wrong with my speling."
should be..."There's" nothing wrong with my spelling."
and igornance of learning
should be ignorance.
It's not good to put anybody on ignore. We are all doing the best
that we can.

I come actoss it quite a bit, sometimes in titles, and if people key word search you just know that they will never be able to bring up that auction. For instance you may see lable or labile, I always thought about contacting that person but never did. I once emailed someone to ask about an auction because I could not comprehend the description by just telling them it seemed rather vague and just asked for condition of item. They emailed me back and said it looked like I was going to be trouble and they rather I do not bid on it. What bothers the heck out of me now in descriptions are the people that are still posting their CHRISTMAS ITEMS with decorations and the old there is still enough time to get this out before etc, etc,. I would think after all this time they would go into it every now and then, instead of just pushing the relist button.

Most of the time it isn't lack of education that causes spelling errors. Typing to fast can be a big culprit. On my Driver's License they actually mispelled Cleveland with Cleveladn! Isn't that a hoot!
I have to admit I've done the exact same thing when I get in a fast groove typing wise. I wouldn't ignore a poster if their spelling or grammer is poor. After all we're only human.

I rarely use the ignore feature. Even if I do, I generally "shut it off" after a day or two, as many threads are harder to follow if you don't read all the posts. Are there some posters who "get under my skin?" Of course, but I don't need to ignore them because I disagree with them. Somehow, that seems childish to me.(especially when the person doing the ignoring ANNOUNCES it to the rest of us) As long as they are not terribly nasty, I don't see the need to use the ignore feature.
There are some posters here, who I find hard to follow. It is usually because of a lack of spaces in their posts. It's difficult to read a huge block of text with no white space. Spelling and grammar errors don't bug me too much, as I struggle with that myself.
When posts are really hard to understand, I try to remember that not all who post here have English as their first language.

Yes, Meya.
Although tempted at certain times in the past, I've only used the ignore feature once on a short-lived poster that some found funny, but I found very annoying. Didn't announce it; just did it.

I have never put anyone on "ignore". If I ever find anyone a bit annoying it is easy for me to scan past quickly.
I do note spelling mistakes and typos but I am also guilty of the same.
