jewels, have never seen this thing before, but I'm a guessing type of person.
Could it possibly be something they use to make fishing sinkers? Melt the lead, put hook inside the mold and then pour in melted lead to harden. Just a wild guess.
Geez, edited to change think to thing..

My dad claims it's a Fishing Sinker Mold.
But, the one he has is heavy (made of Iron or Steel) and has two "bumps" in it to create the hole to thread the line to it near the hole.
My Uncle, who's a baker, says it could be a candy mold.
He said you would pour a solution of candy making ingrediants into the thingy, and either you let it set for a specific ammount of time or you used the hole drain any excess liquid after a short period of time and you would be able to create a shell similar to those candy whistles.
Judging by the shape, he said that it could be used to make gourd shaped candies, thought he couldn't figure what would be the purpose of gourd-shaped candies.
I dunno, hope it might help.

Looks to me like a mold to make meat on a stick. You scoop the ground meat up and stick a wood stick in the hole and open it up to stick it on the grill.

Interesting guesses! Your shrinks will have a good time with it.
It is probably a mold for making "mock chicken legs" ... what gravid suggested. They are usually ground veal or pork, mixed with breadcrumbs, then molded and rolled in more seasoned bread crumbs.
They USED to be a popular food item.

Thank You "all" for your response's.....I truely appreciate them.....I have gotten a few really good laughs as well......"This" widget does NOT have any writtings or markings at all.....who ever invented it didn't want to be known.....I do think that the chicken leg thingy comes close....I wrote in the listing that I thought it might be to pick up chicken legs off the grill or deep fryer.....Again all thoughts welcome and thanks a "bunch"....

Being a nurse my guesses would lean toward a medical instrument the way it opens, possibly a retractor(holds tissue apart so you can get into whatever...I won't go there)Where did you get it, I know I found some really weird stuff a while back at an estate sale of a dentist old instruments false teeth molds etc..

It reminds me of that Jeremy Irons movie where he played twin gynocologists (sp?) and one of the twins went really whacko and started making up these weird, twisted gyno instruments.

Actually some of you are close. It is a mold. It is more lkely a mold for led bullets from what I can see.

Medical instruments are CHROME-PLATED STAINLESS STEEL! Not aluminum.
It's a mold for mock chicken legs.

? Melt the lead, put hook inside the mold and then pour in melted lead to harden
It's clearly some kind of mold, but as it is, it would not appear tight enough to contain molten lead, or liquid of any kind.
A careful inspection (or test with water) might confirm that it is or is not usable to contain liquid, even if closed tightly. That little hole at the end wouldn't appear to be designed for filling the mold, however.
It would appear to be usable to mold material of the consistency of cookie dough, with excess being pushed out of the hole.

I did get this at an Estate sale...they had NO idea what it was...It belonged to their mother whom traveled around the world.....I put it in "kitchen" because I thought since it is aluminu, it is most likely a mold or crabber in the food catergory.....IT DOES "NOT" HOLD WATER.....!!!...SO WHEN CLOSED IT DOESNT HOLD TIGHT.....WATER TRICLES OUT THE EDGES ON THE BOTTOM.....HUMMMMMM....??????
