I thought I had experienced it all with eBay. I enjoyed my last 2 years selling but have recently gone back to work part-time and decided to only do eBay occasionally. I had my last two auctions end on Tuesday. I write the high bidder of one with all the information he needs to send payment and so on. I don't hear from him. I check out his bidding activity, something I always do with zero feedback bidders to see if they are bidding on other similiar auctions. Guess what, he WAS bidding on another auction for the same thing he won from me. So guessing he wouldn't want to go through with the deal, I wrote the underbidder and tell them that if I dont hear from the high bidder, would they be interested in the book. They write back and tell me yes. I figured I would give the bidder until tomorrow to reply back to me.

Okay, here is the part where I am still in shock. Cut and pasted what he just emailed me 5 minutes ago:

>>>I am so sorry, for not responding sooner. I have purchased the book from another auction. So unfortunately I have to give you negative feedback. my apologies<<<

WHAT??????????? I email him and tell him that is NOT how eBay works. So far he hasn't left me a negative but I got a feeling when I wake up in the morning, I will have one. Do you believe this???? I forwarded his email to Safeharbor but I doubt anything is done and if he does leave me a neg, that it will be removed. What a nice way to bow out of eBay. I was hoping to leave on a high note. What a joke!

Give him one first for being so bizarre.

OK, so that was *sort of* tongue-in-cheek but I would give him a neg if he negs you. He's either playing games or is an idiot.

Can anyone doubt that they've actually made computers idiot proof?

That one just sent a shiver up my spine. Im not sure how anyone that stupid could use a computer.
sellers have so little protection against this type of thing. sorry this happend to you. i would contact safe harbor before he negs you.

Oh my word, kiki2! Good thinking, writing to safeharbor right away! You have my sympathies! I would suggest emailing the bidder, but what could one say to a freak like that?! Keep us updated!!

I have a feeling he will end up NARU before he gets a chance to leave feedback.

Is it possible that the bidder means something different by "negative feedback"? He's new, after all. His reply to the e-mail was feedback, and it was negative in the sense he was informing the seller that the deal was off.

"Negative feedback" is a term of art on eBay, and it may not have the same meaning to someone who is inexperienced in online auctions.

Think back. Before you ever heard of eBay, what did "negative feedback" mean to you?

I actually busted out laughing when I read the bidders e-mail message!

THAT is so absurd it's funny.

"Sorry, I bought it from someone else---Now I'll have to give YOU a NEGATIVE feedback!"

I'm sorry, but that is hysterical!

Well, I got a message this morning from them:

>>>Im so sorry, I phrased my e-mail wrong, I meant that I was uninterested. I didnt realize what "negative feedback" meant in e-bay terms. Sorry if I disturbed you<<<<<

Guess they did make a mistake. Disturb me? LOL. Um, just a little! That is one reason why I didn't hurry to leave them feedback first which I am glad about! I wrote her back and told her that she is not supposed to bid on several of the same auctions and once she gets one at a lower bid, bail out on the others. This is happening so much lately!

Maybe now I can bow out on a high note after all!

Definitely neg him

And put his Email comment in the neg feedback comment.

When he neg's you, your response should be his Email comment.

Bee Sure and file NPBA & FVF credit request.

I know most seller's will not agree with me and I understand why....BUT, I think I would pass on leaving any FB for this one! Especially if you are not going to continue selling on a regular basis. It takes a long time for a NEG to disappear off the front page unless you do lots of auctions with FB.

If you Neg him (now that he knows what it means within the eBay realm) he'll probably leave one back!

You could do a Neutral I suppose and let other's know he picks and chooses!

However, as someone already has said, he probably won't last too long before he is NARU OR he will learn very quickly that's a NO NO on eBAY!
