I have an aol address and both buy and sell and haven't had a problem, but received this interesting email today. If you do experience problems, you may or may not want to oblige *** as some EOA lately

Dear *** member,

Within the past few weeks, members have reported problems with automated **** emails addressed to America Online (AOL) members. In some cases, the emails are not being delivered, though our system confirms that the emails have been sent, and received by AOL.

This issue is not unique to ***. eBay users are reporting the same problem with automated eBay emails. We are currently trying to work with AOL to solve this problem, which began when AOL made as yet
undisclosed modifications to their software.

This past weekend, we instituted changes to our notification system to address the issue. We will learn shortly, via your continued feedback to support@***.com, if this solved the problem.

Since AOL has an alliance with eBay, they seem more eager to fix this problem when individuals call their customer support. Therefore, we strongly suggest that you:

1) Call AOL on their toll-free support line at 800-827-3338.
2) Explain that you sell on eBay and that emails sent to AOL buyers are not getting to those AOL members.
3) Tell them that you use a service that automatically sends emails notifying your winners that they have won auctions on eBay and your AOL winners are not getting these emails.
4) Tell them you have heard that AOL has spam filters and you do not want them to view your email as spam.
5) Tell them you want them to fix the problem.
We understand your concern, and we want insure all of our members that we are working diligently to solve this problem - finding a solution is a high priority.

Thank You,

***

***.com

Is it possible that "***.com" (or their ISP) is collecting money for emitting spam, and they are trying to force its spam into AOL via this plea?

Generally, spam blocks against spam-emitting ISP's are the most effective tool we have against spam.

i have the same problem and can not get any help. i have called my isp and aol. aol says its a rumor and couldnt help me because i was not a member. i had aol members call with no result or answere to the problem. i keep hitting walls with this problem. i am on hold now with my isp to try again but i know it will not do any good because its not them. only aol members are not getting my mail AND i am only getting some of there mail. i am not an aol basher im just trying to mail winning bidders and freinds on aol and they get nothing. i hope someone out there can help. i now have to get customers numbers and call them on my dime and my time. last night i did a test and mailed 3 freinds 15 emails each. they received none of them. they called aol and complained and each one was told "this is the first they heard of a problem and it is the other isp's fault. but people with different isp's than me are also getting blocked. help!

AOL ALSO blocks e-mail where the "from" address does not match the "reply to" address. So it would block all e-mails from sellers who send them through Auctionwatch, GOTO Auctions, Auctionworks, and even EBAY! The letter shown above is from one of these sites.

The "plea" is therefore from sellers (including me) who use these services and would like their e-mail to go through.

i just got off the phone with aol again and they say they have no way of blocking any email..........i cant believe this. they say its the user. however i have contacted the users. i am not blocked by them. and once in awhile one of my emails does slip thru, so the idea of the user blocking me dosnt add up. i am getting ready to call ebay (this should be interesting). aol also said they are not getting any complaints after i have have called 3 times and i have had 15 people call them. i have never had any ill feelings about aol but i am starting to now. please if you are with aol, call them and ask if there is a problem. they will of course say no but at least they will know people are aware.
p.s. i was also told i should install aol software and maybe that would help.......hmmmm that one really botherd me.

This has been going on now for about 18 months. AOL starts blocking emails and then the problem disappears. Usually runs about two weeks then clears up, only to rear its ugly head about 6 or so months down the road. This has been happening again for close to three weeks. I have spoken to goto and they said that they are talking with AOL about the problem and thought that they had it worked out, until I pointed out that aol accounts are still complaining about not getting my eoa's. The real problem is that AOL does not let its members know about the problem. Let them decide if the spam blockers warrant the possibility of not receiving important emails. I have about 20 NPB's to file and noticed that more than half are from aol accounts. I wonder how many of them are truly deadbeats, or have just been victimized by AOL's mail service.

My friend just got 6 negs from a newbie for auctions that just ended on Saturday because of this AOL mess. She just found out that they were not receiving her emails and the guy emailed her for the first time this morning shortly before negging her. I've never had experience with this before, but will Ebay remove the negs if both sides work this out? Or is she stuck with them? TIA

Edited to add: She sent these via her Earthlink account and not through an automated service.

ok here is what i have from working on this for the past 2 days. i have contacted everyone my isp and aol and....believe it or not EBAY! yes i got through and there are people at ebay. bad news is there is nothing they can do and i was told this problem is one of the reasons ebay has changed there policy on contacting sellers or bidders. i was told if you go through ebay to reach the winning bidder it will go through. but if you are not aol and you mail an aol member without going through ebay its a risk. aol says this is not true and its the aol member who has there setting set wrong. that is not true because i have checked by phone with many of them and they (the aol members) are not blocking anything. the problem is with aol ,but the solution??? i do not know. i do know i have wasted a lot of time and money on this! i also know that the people on aol who are having the problem do not know it. they just think they are getting less mail or are being ignored. so if you are aol dont be in a hurry to neg someone and be careful not to get a neg.
