panterajake you might want to look at this article http://www.auctionbytes.com/Email_Newsletter/31/31.html#shipping for some tips on reducing Priority Mail shipping costs.

Some sellers have found out that the best way to reduce shipping costs is to auction empty boxes.

I read that articles earlier this week and was able to put it to good use. I saved a Canadian buyer 7.00 on shipping because I was able to shave off a few ounces to get the package below 4 lbs. It was a lot of work though, I'm not too handy with a knife. But now I have a very grateful customer who hopefully will be back.

Trey have you tried Auto Parts stores for foam peanuts and styrofoam? Also found that retail outlets that sell Bed & Bath items tend to have bags of peanuts.

In almost 3 years, I've yet to pay for a bag of peanuts...except at the movies

THE BEST is Tuesday Morning 1 week before they reopen. The employees are required to roll alll the bubble wrap and tape it, and bag the peanuts and place it BESIDE the dumpster. It is shippers haven.

Ditto. Over 3 years full-time selling on eBay, minimum 100 auctions a month, and not once have I bought boxes, bubble wrap, foam popcorn, or other packaging materials. Just buy tape & some labels. I know the costs of these things & I have saved literally many thousands of dollars. I go out about once every 2 weeks now, have all my places sussed, which ones have the small boxes (the CD boxes behind music stores are just great for small shipments!), medium, large, etc. The stuff is out there, and I really do think my time was worth it in this case. And all my boxes are clean, too, have not had one complaint.

P.S. for large books, wine or liquour boxes are great, just cut them right down the sides, fold them over the book & seal -- I ship a great many books this way & they all arrive in fine condition. If the book is quite valuable, I will pack inside a box with foam or bubble around it, but in most cases the cut down & folded over box will do just fine.

I harvest foam peanuts from the trash bins at the local malls.
