Ok, now that I have your attention.. I got this ashtray from a sale for a dime, who could pass that up, right? Well, it has this funny writing on the bottom which looks like Latin or maybe Greek or Russian Orthodox. It sure looks Catholic.. Any help that ANY one could give me would be very very much appreciated!
Thanks!
grrrr.. try this pic thing again...

IHS means "I Have Suffered" it is Catholic, and it usually is found on a cross, above Jesus' head, such as on a rosary.

It is from Holy Cross:
Collegium Sanctae Crucis Vigornii, Massachusetts, 1843
IN HOC SIGNO VINCES
College of the Holy Cross, Worcester Massachusetts, 1843
In This Sign You Will Conquer
(based on Greek phrase en tauth nika recorded by Eusebius, Vita Constantini,1. 26-31= labarum: a military emblem reflecting Constantine's vision of Cross as sign of his impending victory at Milvian bridge in 303.)

Thank you all so much! Especially you olympique, had I been able to read any of that I still probably would have never figured it out. (Bad protestant!)
Now all I have to do is find a smoker from Holy Cross to sell it to....
