I've been using Billpoint electronic check and Paypal (not credit card funded) payments on auctions, plus personal checks & mo.

I'm branching out from Ebay, and can't see the reason why sellers would prefer Paypal for credit card sales versus Billpoint. From what I can see, Billpoint is cheaper.

Isn't it Bidpay that charges a $5 transaction fee to buyers? That is totally out of the question.

Can ya'll in sales tell me, what do you prefer for credit cards and why?

For credit cards, definitely western union's moneyzap and you might want to check out Citibank's C2it. Both currently free and from well known financial institutions who know how to prevent fraud. You might want to visit Payment service ratings for more info.

I accept Paypal and Billpoint and prefer PayPal. It's easier to use. I just send out my regular invoice and the buyer does the rest. With Billpoint, I have to sign in at the Billpoint site and send a special invoice which is just more work for me.

Over 90% of my customers who use online payments pay by PayPal. So, it really doesn't matter what sellers prefer, it matters what buyers prefer.

Bidpay does charge $5 for money orders up to $100. It's not a good deal for most Americans, but it is a good deal for foreign bidders.

As a seller I prefer PayPal over BillPoint for several reasons.

1. debit card (really nice)

2. the ability to split funds and transfer to my choice of bank accounts or just use PayPal to transfer funds from one bank to another.

3. PayPal lets me know if I'm sending to the billing address or not, BillPoint doesn't. I like having the information to make judgement calls.

4. Easier to use.

5. More payment options, from account, instant payment, echeck, or credit cards.

6. wider acceptance.

7. ability to make larger transactions.

8. multiple email accounts

9. less dependence on eBay (I don't like owe my soul to the company store)

PayPal is cheaper AND easier to use. BUT, lately I'm trying to push electronic checks through Billpoint cuz they don't charge for those. Billpoint's charges for cr card transactions are much more than PayPal.

I'm an ebay Bronze Powerseller but I also sell alot of time sensative, relatively expensive items (anywhere from $400 to about $1500) via non-auction means - mostly online classifieds. I recently stumbled upon the fact that Billpoint can be used for non-ebay transactions up to my limit of $2000 per transaction. This has proven to be extremely handy since most of my buyers are first time users of online payment services and the other forms of payment that I accept for my auctions won't work for newbies as PayPal has a spending limit of only $250 for brand new users and Yahoo PayDirect's is only $200. All I have to do is send an online invoice and it walks the buyer thru the entire payment process in just a few minutes.

Both Billpoint and PayPal have both good and bad things to them. I use both and they seem to work with me. I also have a credit card merchant account.
