Hi Everyone: Here is my problem. I have a book that is still in its' original shrinkwrap. From the cover it appears to be a book on masonry but it's written in German, I think. I ran the name through all the popular book sites with no success and even translated the cover and it's about "Garden Architecture". The book is called: "Mauern und Wege" and the other words on the cover are: "Dieter Boeminghaus" (which may be the authors name) and Gestaltunselemente im stadtischen Bereich --- Callwey". I really don't want to take off the shrink wrap if I don't have to but obviously I may have to if I can't get enough info on the book to write up an eBay description. I don't even know the date of publication. Has anyone ever heard of the book? Any suggestions how I might approach this vexing problem? Thanks for any help! Joe

The only way you can confirm edition, publisher, etc. is to remove the shrinkwrap. You can't describe what you haven't personally "seen."

I'm no German, so I went to Babelfish.
Your book was written by Otto Valentien and published in Munich in 1958. Dieter Boeminghaus is likely the publisher. I couldn't get any more out of Babelfish than what HJW found for you.
I'd leave the shrinkwrap on, since that would suggest the book is in new condition. If Barbara Schoeningh is offering a copy for sale at Bibliofind for 75 deutschmarks (not dollars), it may have some value. (Don't know the current exchange rate, but I don't think the deutchmark is equal to the dollar, though.)
Why not e-mail Ms. Schoeningh for more info about the book? If she is offering one for sale she should be able to tell you more about it. (Maybe she'd even want to buy it! )
My 2¢.

...or you can make an inquiry about buying hers and see what she tells you about it....
(did I type that out loud?)

A book published in 1958 would more than likely not be in shrink wrap. What you probably have is a later edition (recently printed), probably a reprint.

This book, particularly since it is in German, sounds too specialized to sell on eBay. [Perhaps you might try the German eBay site.]

Hi!
I have sold books printed in German, both current and vintage, also fiction/nonfiction on another auction venue...... it sounds like Amazing......hint hint.
I go to www.transparentlanguage to get a gist of what I'm selling and the buyers are able to figure out if they want it.
I always put a big note at the top; "please write/email to me in English only, thanks!"
Strangely enough, ALL of my sales have stayed within the USA on foreign books. I thought for sure some of the vintage textbooks would want to go 'home'!
