I recently purchased a software program from an Ebay "Powerseller"
that was selling quite a few copies of the same program(they still are too).
The program arrived too late for my kids project and it's an old version anyway and we did not want it.
So,I put it on ebay and was surprised,an hour before the auction ended that the major software company used their VERO rights authority and had ended my auction.
I was shocked and surprised-considering the original seller has no less than 7 of these listed at the same time and those remain..
I rec'd an email from ebay that said I should contact the VERO member and I did.I rec'd a canned response from them instructing me(should I want to pursue it) to send a photo of the box, receipt, etc to the "Piracy" dept.
The software I rec'd did not come with a box or registration card.....
If this seller sold me something illegal-am I in trouble now ? I think the person deals in closeout software...
Does ebay turn over peoples names and addresses of people in these instances ?
Should I write to the company and point out which seller sold it to me ?

Was it Microsoft? They cancelled all of my auctions when I went to sell thier software without manuals, box...it was cd's only.
They say you can only sell there stuff in a retail box, but when I went to contact them to double check if I can sell the retail version, like you would buy in a store. They are eluding me and want my source...there is no way I will ever give that up...they have people that just look through auctions all day for this!!

I got a letter from Microsoft stating they would be checking businesses in my area for pirated software. It was to put us on notice if we were using any.
We do not use pirated software so I do not have anything to worry about. It was jusst really weird to get such a letter from a company as huge as Microsoft.

The VERO owner(big software company) has an automated unread email robot.
The procedure is outlined to:
*take a photo of the box and the CD
*submit with copy of retail receipt
Send by snail mail to their address...
So,I really don't want to be on any companies permanentn database for stuff like this
but I will call them tomorrow.
What do software companies do with old versions of software ? They obviusly sell them off to liquidators rather than trash them. What do they think the liquidators do with them ?
Who knows-maybe the seller that sold me this software contacted VERO The original seller and I did not get along at all on this transaction..I did not appreciate his getting back to me 4 days AFTER the auction ended and taking his sweet time to mail out the software and there were other issues as well.Out of the thousands of online buys I've done,Mr.Powerseller had to be the biggest *hithead I've ever encountered..
