I had some time to kill today, so I decided to look through my old feedback. I went to the first feedback I ever received and then looked at that person's feedback. I went to his oldest feedback and then looked at that person's feedback. I kept repeating this process for about 15 minutes, and naturally, the feedback dates got older and older. The oldest feedback I found was from 2/28/96. It said "Praise: PAID FOR MY PEZ DISPENSER VERY QUICKLY. THANKS PIERRE!".
My challenge for you (if you choose to accept it) is to find a feedback older than that and post it here (don't post any IDs though!). It didn't take me too long to find that one, so mine shouldn't be too hard to beat. The person who finds the oldest feedback by 3/23/01 at 11:59:59EST will get a big pat on the back from me. Happy hunting! And, no cheating!

Whew, that was fun! But I didn't do any better than you; the oldest feedback I could find was also Feb 28, 1996:
I having received a damaged order, SELLERNAME replaced it at his expense.

Hmmmm... I didn't get too far back before I ran into a recursive loop with two users who got their first feedbacks from each other:
Dec-07-97 12:54:51 PST
Praise: Deal exactly as stated; would deal with again; it was a pleasure
Ah well....

nebula5-I did it a few times, from my first feedback, to their first feedback, and so on, and got came to that EXACT feedback you found on 2/28/96.
Funny, on the way I found about 3 first feedbacks still with (0) and a lot NARUed.

I also started with my own feedback and ended up after about fifteen minutes at the 2/28/96 feedback "I having recieved a damaged".........hmmmm....I wonder how many people would end up there? Could that be the 1st feedback?

Wow! What fun! This beats cleaning the house (what I SHOULD be doing!!). Unfortunately, mine came up short. When I did the my first feedback to their first feedback, etc., I came up with:
Apr-24-96 15:33:36 PST
Praise: Very quick in sending the package I won. Stuff in good shape too.
Rats!

I found this one from 2-28-96 "I having received damaaged order, "claw" replaced at his expense." Left by user lobo*****. One thing I noticed was that back then it was like incest, every feedback profile's first page had the exact same sellers as the one before. Anyone notice all the high feedback people that left in 2000?
I shudder about the people who don't shudder at all.

Sony-
It is entirely possible that feedback did not exist when Pierre first created the predecessor of eBay. We're merely speculating about how far back it did go.
Who said topics about eBay couldn't also be fun?
Moderator, please leave this thread here.

2-27-96 "Very Positive Experience".
I found an interesting surprise in digging through the old FB. I was surprised how many of those old FBs are from inactive users. Most haven't had FB in 2 years, yet their account is still intact. You would also think that the older FBs would have high numbers by now but don't.
I wonder if they are still counted in eBay's 22 million memebers ?

Ah, this thread and resulting search has caused me to remininse (SP?) about the good ol' days of non-transactional feedback. Remember those? You could leave FB for anyone, ant time, for any reason? Heres a good one I found
Their first feedback...
Grossly ineffificent. Thinks she knows how to spell, but really doesn't
Their second feedback...
XXXX is my mom. I was playing around and didn't mean to leave negative message
Thanks for nothing kid!

Lobo***** "I having received a damaged order, "claw" replaced it at his expense," must be one of the very first recorded feedbacks - his 2-28-96 was also the oldest I found following my lineage.
Geez, going through all those users feedback and ending up with so many of us on the same feedback makes you feel like we are all related - weird!

I saw a couple of glitches. There were one or two users who left feedback in 1996, yet their registrations showed today's date...?

Julesy- I found the same thing and it was only if they hadn't left feedback after the change in non-transactional feedback. I also found someone that had one positive from before then with no negs or neutrals and he showed up as a zero feedback.

You know after doing this for a little while, it seems that there are waves of buyers and sellers that appear to just pass through eBay and are no longer active.
Each different year has a different loop of users involved and few that continue longer than 3 years.
I guess the novelty wore off and they went back to Wal-Mart and flea markets.

Funny? Ha! That's hilarious!
These days, for example, with some people ready to jump down your throat if they don't have their item in four days after the auction ends, it's great to see how innocent things were then.

And each of us are Claw related.
And each we leave feedback for become related as "Claws".
Maybe someday there could be a "Claw" reunion.
