I have an opportunity to buy a Sony Mavica FD 5 for 165.00. It is in good working order. What I need help with is, does anyone know anything about an FD 5 such as when was this model made & is it as easy to use as the newer models & is 165.00 a good price. I would like to use it for my eBay auctions.

The FD5 was one of the first Mavicas, I had one about 4 years ago. IMO $165 is too much - the prices have come a lot in the past few months, you could get an FD71 for not much more than that.

The flash on the FD5 and FD7 was much too strong and would wash out your pics if you were too close to the subject. Later models greatly improved the flash. The FD5 also has no zoom.

My advice is that you pass on the FD5, and not get anything earlier than the FD71.

Don't waste your money on this model.
Spend a little extra for an FD-73 or higher. Don't get one with a memory stick.

I agree I thinks it's a bit too much, I saw an FD73 at Sears for $299 just last week, almost bought it myself.
