As the worlds largest auction hall and richest I might add, why doesn't Ebay have a backup to swith to for outages? Isn't it about time?

They do, but the poor little hampsters run out of energy on the wheels before it does any good.

My understanding is that it has something to do with having a system that needs to be up to date at any given moment. (i.e. the high bids and the time left in every auction)

Someone here posted the link to an article that sort of explains it, but I read it a while ago.
