... shipping rate.

Because they wanted to pay instantly, they sent a BillPoint request. There was no .ca in their e-mail address, and they did not mention they were from Canada, so I sent the US shipping rate.

What is the best way to tell a Newbie Canadian bidder to be sure to tell US sellers they are in Canada for a correct shipping quote ...

... without sounding haughty or anti-Canadian?

Dear XYZ,

Welcome to ebay. I hope your experience here will be a great one.

I see by your address that you are in Canada. Unfortunately, the shipping rates I quoted are for U.S. based deliveries.

Since the item will be delivered to you in Canada, I will need to revise your shipping to correctly reflect shipping rates to your country.

In future purchases on ebay, it would be helpful in advance if you would let the seller know you are in Canada so they can calculate the proper shipping & notify you of the correct total amount up front.

Congratulations on the winning bid & welcome to ebay.

Sincerely.
(seller)

I just had one, she actually sent me a personal check for the US shipping. So I e-mailed her and 'apologized' for not giving her the extra attention that I 'usually' give to first time buyers, as I know how 'confusing' it can be and it's supposed to be fun yada, yada. Then I told her what she owed me, and I helped her through it. She was very nice about it and thanked me for the E-Bay lessons.

And yet another example of why I insist on the high bidders full name & shipping address in my EOA email, especially when they want to use Billpoint.

My TOS says U.S. bidders only: this one Canadian never says she's from Canada, sends a postal money order with no additional shipping funds. I had to void the money order and tell her to get a refund through the PO.

Today I'm dealing with another Canadian who already threatened to neg me because I was sending the EOA email to the email address I got from ebay, and apparently she only reads email from another address. Then when I send an email to her other address she responds and makes it sound doubtful that I previously sent her an EOA email. This sale is being voided not only for not following the TOS but for her tone.

(Not picking on Canadians)
