I've seen people on here complaining about the post office using Ebay to sell off undeliverible packages and my question is does anyone know what thier user name is so I can check it out.

Hi sweil,
Since this is information is public knowledge, I don't think I'm breaching the CG's by giving you this information
The USPS has 4 usernames on Ebay:
usps-mrc-music
usps-mrc-books
usps-mrc-movie
usps-mrc-everythingelse
Have fun and if you find my vcr, let me know!

Thanks,
I don't see why people are so upset about the post office selling this stuff. They have been having public auctions for these kinds of things for almost as long as there has been a post office. Do people really believe that the post office would lose a package on purpose just so they could sell it.

I wonder what would happen if someone found their lost items on Ebay being auctioned off by the PO? Would the auction be stopped?

I truly belive that if you saw your stuff there and could prove it was your they would stop the auction. Besides look at it this way if you keep checking thier auctions you have a better chance to find your stuff then if these were not on Ebay and were still auctioned off at some clearing house that you would never go to.

Isn't the post office breaking the law by not charging sales tax? I have to, shouldn't they?

usps-mrc-movie comes up as not a valid ebay id.

The correct ID is usps-mrc-movies.
There is also another ID: usps-mrc-collectibles.
If you are in one of their auctions, they have links to the seller's list for all their other ID's.
Without eBay, I might have a real life...

I talked to my postmaster about these auctions and she told me that the items they are selling have to be at least 5 yrs old. Since they are required to hold "dead mail" 5 years before they can get rid of it. So we can all start looking for are lost auction items in a couple of years.

Your postmaster is not correct.
Just before Christmas I saw them selling a Playstation 2.

I don't care about the USPS selling on ebay but where does that money go? What I do find offensive is their mailing charges.

Heres the link to one, their about ME page, and will take you to all their auctions
http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/usps-mrc-everythingelse/
I am only guessing they don't charge tax, because they don't at the check out at the post office?
I look there a lot, for a couple 'missing items' I've sent out, but there are so many going all the time, I don't have the time.

I think it is like propertyroom.com, if you can prove ownership you get it back for free... But these items might be items that they already have paid insurance claims on... Since they have already paid out, the property needs to be disposed of...
