After sending out 10 NPB notices tonight, I just received my first response/excuse, from a person who bid on TWO separate auctions of mine. Their feedback is currently +6 -2 (he responded something about his new email address & not getting EOA's).
sorry but when i bid on your items i also had been on one that i really
wanted and got outbid. since i lost that auction i no longer am interested
in the two items i won. I'm very, very sorry and hope that you will forgive
me and not leave - feedback, i would appriciate it greatly, if there is
something i can do for you, email.
My gut instinct is to email him back and say, "yeah, pay up or be negged. Your bid is a contract."
I would also like to note that, when I pulled up this auction, the feedback was the same, but the ID was different. Any ideas on what's with that?

I just went back and checked, and the email that he sent me was from his "old" email address, not the new one that he quoted in his response to his negs.

My stock response to this (and I get quite a few of these sob stories) goes something like:
Your bid is a contract and you should honor it, otherwise you should not be bidding on eBay. This is a second income for me and I take it very seriously. I expect everyone else to take it seriously too, and I always leave appropriate feedback to those who do not follow through on their bids.

IMO, the name change probably means that he has been doing this quite a bit and sellers are cancelling his bids when they see his handle bidding.
I'm not sure that I understand his sob story ~ either I'm tired or it's gibberish (or both).
Regardless, you can reply by quoting the fees you are out due to his irresponsible bidding ~ ask for the listing fee, FVF, re-listing fee, and any difference there is in the Final bid the second time around.
Negs do not remove a non-paying bidder ~ deadbeats who continue to bid and win dont cost eBay money, they make eBay money in continued FVF's. However, your filing NPB's/FVF's costs eBay money ~ that's where eBay draws the line. They really don't like to give back the green stuff. THat's how you "remove" an NPB. I think it's time for someone to give this guy a reality check ~ sorry it looks like you! Don't leave the neg if you don't want to, but file the forms and help get rid of this loser!

I agree with zoomin. The NPB alert and claim for FVF does more good than the Neg., if you don't wnat to leave it. Two auctions = 2 strikes against him. Only 2 more and he's out for good and if he already has negs, he probably already has those. ByeBye deadbeat!
