Looks like I have a decision to make soon. About a year and a 1/2 ago I got burned buying a digital camera on eBay and just recently the attorney general of another state has contacted me and a few others to come and testify against the seller. Has anyone had to do this before? Any advice? Should I do it? I'm curious if it's worth my time to and if I'll even be able to get the $300 back I lost

You should ask as part of a settlement that you receive costs. Airfare, hotel, meals etc. I believe you can be requested to attend by supeona (from the courts) now that a case has gone forward for determination. You may also request through the courts that testimony be taken by phone.

As one who has been burnt, I really hope you do this. If people thought there were actually possible consequences (like jail) they might be alittle more wary of this.

If you can be able to take the time to do this I have to say you must go. you Can ask the DA for some type of travel expense, most states do give some allowances for this sort of thing. I know it is handled diferently in every state. Going there telling the truth, Getting the verdict you were hoping for makes it all worth while. Even if the person has claimed bankruptcy by now, I believe a court can stil make them pay restitution to the people that came and testified to their fraudulent business practices. I know this to be true in some states I do not know if it is true in your particular situation. Good luck

I was ripped off by an ebay seller back in 97. I lost $100, but he scammed close to $20,000 in a few weeks. I filed mail fraud, police reports etc. Well enough people filed and this individual was charged. He was on the west coast and I live on the east coast. It took over a year but a FBI agent came to my office and took my statement and documentation. A few months after that I received a letter from a probations officer stating that the individual was convicted and was awaiting sentencing. I never found out the consenqueces. But I did feel better that I helped make his life hell.
