Most of us have some kind of suggestive name, i.e., "antiquesrus" or "greatsales" or something, but what I'm talking about is sexually suggestive user names.
Some person just bid on one of my auctions with such a name (I won't mention it here but if you can find your way to my auctions you can see it). It's not even a subtle play on words. It's just there, brazen as can be.
I'm not a prude by any means, but what's the point? It makes me think they are just a troll or someone who is not going to pay.

If it's a sexually explicit name, I'd cancel the bid. That sort of thing would very likely offend my customers and stifle bidding. I would not hesitate. I'd also CC Safeharbor with a request that they not bid again. You just don't need that sort of thing showing up on your seller list. And, no, I'm not a prude either, but that ID isn't even clever.

You would cancel his bid? I was seriously thinking about doing that myself.

Cancel the bid? Why? Lets back up the pony cart for a moment. I have seen some strange user names, but that does not mean that they are trolls or deadbeats.
Just let it run and see how it goes. money is money. just treat them like any other bidder. Do let us know how it turns out.

Already canceled. I thought srfnfshn gave me some good advice and I took it.

I agree. If they have no hesitation to do what they know will be offensive to others I would expect no hesitation to be in your face over questions about the shipping or satisfaction with the product - they have already demonstarted that restraint is not a part of their personality. I shudder to think what they would feel free to express in feedback. They have already said they don't give a damn what you think about them.

Just had a chance to look this up, this is beyond strange. I would cancel also. Makes you wonder what they are thinking of.

I haven't had anyone with a really bad name bid on one of my auctions, but I have noticed some out there that I'd cancel in a heartbeat; I think you did the wise thing, loosecannon.
I don't agree that "money is money" - there are some people whose money I can do without.

Not knowing you eBay ID, I couldn't look up the auction (the only "loosecannon" seller there has no active auctions). However, cancelling the person's bid simply because you don't like or are offended by his/her ID strikes me as wrong.

Everyone here disagrees with you. They saw the ID.

The ID in question was a very specific bodily function.
It's the equivalent of someone coming into your store and spewing pornographic statements or profanity. Any self-respecting shop owner would show him the door and that's exactly what Loosecannon did. I say well done.

I once had someone with a rather explicit userid bid on and win one of my auctions. I was a bit skeptical, but they paid promptly and I didn't have a bit of trouble with them.
These days, with 99% of my customers being homeschool families, many of whom are quite conservative, I'd probably consider canceling bids from someone with a sexually explicit userid.
I'm extremely liberal and that sort of thing doesn't offend me at all, but I try to stay as neutral as possible while doing business. Offending customers is always a bad business move.

I don't keep up with current rules on Ebay, but as of a couple years ago, it was against TOS. If you email safeharbor and they will suspend.

This person is bidding on other auctions. I agree that the ID is offensive but for a younger person this may seem like a "cool" ID. The way things are going I wouldn't be at all surprised if the was the name of an up and coming rock band. Not much surprises me anymore.
Would I cancel this bid? If I thought it would ruin my auction because it was offensive to other bidders I may. Also, the fact that he has zero feedback.
I have seen a lot of "suggestive" ID's on ebay in the past few years and most seem to burn out pretty quickly. And many seem to be just trouble makers.

Do people really cancel bids from zero feedback bidders? If I did that my income would drop by 75%. I LOVE newbies! They bid on (and pay for) most of my dutch auction items.

If I would feel uncomfortable dealing with someone I would cancel the bid in a heartbeat too. You don't have to accept a bid from someone you're not willing to do business with. This is your right. I haven't seen the ID, but I trust the judgment of the people that found it distasteful.
I agree with kudzurose completely. Some people, you don't need their money.
edited because you can't trust my spelling.

Darn, I am curious, wish someone would tell us Loosecannon's name on eBay as I have checked also and the only one I find doesn't have any auctions running, not in the last 2 weeks.

I think you did what you feel comfortable with ~ IMO, that will always be the right decision
I haven't had any suggestive eBay ID's, I have, however, had two incredibly offensive e-mail addy's. They actually made me blush
There's no way I would have wanted to trade with them if that was their eBay ID!
You can't judge a book by the cover, but, the name you choose to be known by can tell quite a bit of the story!
BTW, they were both DeadBeats in the end

Hi dubyasdaman,
Sorry, I did not make myself clear on that one. I meant zero feedback in combination with that weird ID.
I would never cancel bids from a zero feedback bidder otherwise as they are some of my best bidders also.

Hello,
I'm going to have to lock this thread up due to identifying buyer/seller information.
By providing Ebay User names, etc., there's enough information to identify the bidder in question, and our Community Guidelines do not permit the discussion of specific sellers/bidders.
Thanks,
Sara
