The Sony Mavica FD -73 camera which so many have found perfect for aucton images is being widely sold new for under $300.

It was suggested that Sony may be discontinuing the camera but whatever the reason many regular dealers and the eBay auctions are offering below $300. prices for new cameras.

Anyone interested in switching to a cable Internet connection, as I am, or presently renting a cable modem might want to check this weeks sale at CompUSA. Offered at $100. after discount and rebate.

That price is about $80. below anything I've been able to find and $100. below what they sell for from my cable company.

I know next to nothing about the modems so anyone with comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

With local AT&T@HOME, the modem itself was free.

They give away the shaver, and gouge you on the blades!

And no, the service is not cheaper if you use your own modem.

Hi, Ray. Here is my thought on it after about 8 months or so of cable modem...
It is more convienient to me to have the cable company install their own cable modem.
I called them and scheduled the install. They came out, took my computer apart, installed a NIC (network card), put the computer back together, attached a cable from the NIC to the external cable modem, installed the software, tested it all and left.
Twice since then they have been out here on trouble calls. Both times there was no charge at all for their time or for any parts they replaced (both the NIC and the cable modem), they also reverified my registry and ensured that everything was operating at peak.
This has proven to be (for me) a much more convienient and less costly service than I would expect from 'owning' my cable modem where I would probably have to get a manufactures warranty and take the faulty part to the dealer and either get a replacement I would have to install, or even worse - wait for the unit to be shipped off and repaired and returned to the dealer.
( I also got a free NIC out of the deal because they replaced it and then determined that it wasn't the culprit and didn't want to bother pulling the new one and putting the old one back in )
My service is Mediaone. Your provider experience may vary.
