Has anyone seen the changes to the category section? Look under collectibles and try to find a topic. I really hope eBay chages the section back. This new version took forever to find something.

I just discovered this myself. IMO, the new category structure is a disaster [ edited by joanne on Apr 13, 2001 10:48 AM ]

I guess we'll get used to these NEW EBAY CATEGORIES, after a while....It's not dramatic!!
What's bothering me is that I listed with AW AMpro before eBay changed them and since AuctionWatch didn't do his JOB of UPDATING the categories at the same time, I now find my stuff listed in IMPROPER CATEGORIES... I'm asking YOU Auction Watch People to let us know WHEN you are going to update your sofware... The sooner ,the better!
AFTER ALL WE PAY YOU NOW for your SERVICES, don't we???

I believe Ebay keeps adding/changing Category's so it will force sellers to list in more than one thus doubleing the listing fees they are collecting. I really have not seen very many new useful Category's, just more of them. I sell a wide range of items and more and more I am finding more than one category that it should go in and sometimes up to 4 or 5 for the same item.
Keep in mind if your using a reserve that fee doubles as well also the Gallery, and so on. You could easily end up with a $5-10 listing fee for a simple item if your not careful. Also I keep tabs on auction expense for cost of items sold, and they are up 2-3% since Ebay started the dual listing feature.
I don't use dual listing very often either.

YIKES! And thanks for bringing this to our attention!

I just copied the new collectibles pages, and it is several pages longer than the old collectibles categories.

And verrrry hard to find what you're looking for, the way those columns continue downward rather than up to the top of the page (that's probably not very clear?!).

I just relisted an item and got an "invalid category" error. The category was valid the first time I listed it. It took me an hour to figure out what had happened and how to get it through as a relist instead of having to redo it and list it as an original listing.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Just a FYI - the tweaking of the new collectible categories is not yet finished.
Don't panic, I think when it's completed you'll better understand where eBay is heading with this.

The reality is that eBay has outgrown the categories as we once knew them, and some items are getting mismashed into areas where they kinda/sorta belong, but not really.

The idea is to make things easier to find, not harder. Many collectors don't enjoy wading through 10 subcategories browsing/searching for one specific item, and eBay is trying to create categories that are less general, and more specific in nature.

I'm surprised that this would be NEWS to any regular sellers, as the changes were released months ago, and discussed here on a thread I started back on Feb 18th.

I'll bring it back up to the top just in case anyone wants to add their thoughts to it.

I think its part of Ebay's new revenue plan to charge users by the "mouse click".

Some of those collectible categories now require 4-7 clicks before you get to an individual seller's ad!

The grocery store equivalent would be: Aisle 6, Case 4, Shelf 2, Right hand side just behind the items with the blue bottles. You can't miss it!

Sorry, I didn't like the breakdowns of the categories. Some Pop Culture items will be difficult for the newbies to find.

redder Where are they going with this anyways?
