What a way to start out the night. I just got an email from someone who won an auction a month ago. I never heard from them. After I sent several emails and waited a couple weeks for a reply, I filed NPB alert. Then filed for FVF.
Now I get an email saying, the usual, they went on vacation and golly gee wiz just got home.
That was the first email.
The second one said-- "I just got a warning from Ebay! Thanks a lot! Jerk!" My computer was messed up, DSL connection or something"--
Or something... that's the size of it alright.
2 different excuses in 2 different emails.
And I am the jerk.
Great.

You could take the saintly approach & ignore it.
Or take the devilish approach & ask him how he knew his computer was messed up if he was on vacation.
I recommend saintly though devilish is really what we'd all like to do.

Saintly is the way to go...I am going to try really hard!
I did answer the email in an unemotional manner explaining that I have no way of knowing when a buyer is on vacation and also that I was sorry for the computer problems but that it had nothing really to do with this auction.
I said that I was sorry that we could not do business.
Oh! I also said Thank You.
I hope that was saintly enough. It is about all I can muster at this point.

Jwoodcrafts-
I congratulate you, for your very professional attitude. That approach is the standard of every successful enterprise.
I demand the same level of competence from my people, starting at the top (which seems to need the most prodding) on down through the ranks. Remember, if you take the high ground, you will always have the best vantage point.

Thanks, I'm trying to be good.
I was soooo irritated (spelling?) when I got that email last night, now in the bright light of morning, it seems almost funny.

Of course another "devilish" approach would have been simply to respond, "Your Welcome!".

Happenings like this are the true test of mettle. I wish I had a bit more.
One guy won an auction of mine for a measley $3.50 book. Gave him all the time anyone would need to pay. I did finally hear from him and he said he thought his wife had taken care of it, that he had been in Africa of all places.
On safari I presume.
Then I gave him more time to send payment and would you believe it never showed?
He negged me for negging him and said "doesn't follow instructions" in his comment.
Huh?

loosecannon,
I'm afraid one of those "devilish" moods might have made me respond with:
"Neither does his wife".

I should have been more understanding. While in deepest, darkest Africa he probably had all he could worry about dodging hungry lions, tigers and crocodiles.
Carrier pigeons must have been in short supply as well.
What was I thinking?

I'm very disappointed in you, loosecannon.
You mean you don't take payment by PayPigeon?

Yes, but I don't advertise it in my TOS. Also, I would have accepted any form of payment, including sea shells or pretty rocks, if the guy would have just paid.
