I have a copy of "How To Build Modern Kitchen Cabinets", published in 1948, quite an interesting book, especially if you like retro kitchens. I'm hoping someone else will like it too, but can't figure out which category to list it in?? Any suggestions?

My older design books do fairly well in the books:nonfiction:home category, although I do wish they would make a distinct design category under non-fiction books. The book might also be of interest to woodworkers. In which case you have a choice of categories. I know there's a woodworking category in the newly-expanded hobbies & crafts category, and there's also a books:nonfiction:hobbies category. Good luck!

Take a look through the Home and Garden category and see where it might go.
For instance there is a category: Home & Garden > Home Furnishings > Furnishings > Kitchen, Tabletop

I must warn you that ebay has a few idiots working for them, looking for auctions placed in "inappropriate" categories. When found, they are either deleted or moved to an "appropriate" category. Sellers are not allowed to use their intellect and past experience to determine where their item will sell best.
What you have is a BOOK. It is not a woodworking tool or a home furnishing. You must put it under BOOKS.
That's ebay-think.
I wish they would be "just a venue" and stay out of the way we run our business.

I thought that we had gone around this circle before and that eBay was in agreement that non-fiction books can go in the section of their subject matter.
For instance, a book on antique glass can be listed in the antique glass category.
Certainly there are lots of them there.

cdnbooks,
I appreciate that information. That position makes sense.
But I got carried away because there are non-book items for which ebay has taken the opposite, and quite literal, view.
My point is that we should not have to "go around this circle" at all, that category selection should be up to the seller.
BTW missspider could list her book in two categories (costs double the listing fee, though).

I always find that topical books do better in their subject area than in the "book" area--that's where the buyers are!

Question: When ebay does move a book to a "more appropriate" site, do they inform the seller that they've moved it?

I didn't realize ebay did this. I usually put my books under the catagory most associted with the subject matter and not under books.
I have sold quite a few books on ebay always under the subject matter and not books in general
