Have an item for sale on Ebay. The highest bidder has -1 feedback for non payment on an earlier bid. This is the only feedback this person has. If it was a low end item I would not be to concerned. But, the high bid is over $100. Can I cancel the bid without Ebay raising a stink? What reason should I give? Please excuse if my questions seem not to bright. But, this is the first time that I have been faced with this situation and want to make sure that I do it right.

Thanks,
Theresa

yes, cancel and give "negative fb" as the reason.

You can cancel any bid, any time, for any reason. You might want to email the high bidder first & give them a chance to explain what happened with their last auction?
Perhaps the seller was just too impatient?

I would not cancel. 1. They might not be your high bidder in the End and they are raising the bid amout. 2. If they are truly a Dead Beat who doesn't want to mend their ways which they might want to do this time...and you cancel their bids they will only get mad and rebid under a new id. I would let it go and see. You can always relist it.

I don't even consider a bidder's feedback and I NEVER cancel a bid. Overall this policy has served me very well.

I get the occasional deadbeat just like everyone else. But someone reading these boards would get the impression that deadbeats are an epidemic. In my experience this just isn't the case. Deadbeats are really few and far between and easy to deal with when you get them. Just file NPB & FVF and relist. Sure, you lose the listing fee in many cases and you have to deal with the hassle of relisting. But deadbeats are so few and far between that it really isn't a major headache (for me at least).

I would let it ride (but then again I ALWAYS let it ride).

But the answer to your question is that you can cancel a bid at any time for any reason.
