Hi, I've been using my Sony Mavica for all my Ebay pictures since I bought the camera last year. I'm still on the same battery it came with, but now when I fully charge my battery it doesn't last for the last 20 minutes. The battery will say I have 20 minutes left but it shuts off and won't turn back on until I recharge it again. So I think this battery is on its way out.
Does anyone know where I can get the AC Adapter for this camera? I can't even find it on the Sony website or through any other searches, and I can't find any on Ebay right now.
Thanks!

Try this ... do something INTENSE with the camera, like run a slide show repeatedly until the battery absolutely refuses to let the camera do anything. Drain it as dry as you can.
Then place it in the charger and leave it for at least overnight ... there is a wierd thing that can happen with rechargeables that basically makes them able to lie about being fully charged.

Same thing is happening with my FD73. You know I'm not sure if it came with an adapter - did yours? Awhile ago on a thread someone said you have to buy a new battery and the cheapest place to get one is Sears. I have been living with this problem for a few weeks now and am going to need a new battery or an adapter soon. Hope we get some good answers here !!!!

Sounds like this camera uses the older "memory" batteries. The problem with these batteries is that they "remember" where they were when they were last recharged and place a sort of "bookmark" at that point. If you use the battery for 5 mintues and then recharge, the bookmark is placed at the 5 minute point and thereafter it will only work for 5 minutes between charges. To avoid this, you have to deep discharge the battery before recharging. You can use it in the camera until it is dead and then keep turning the camera on over and over until it is "more than dead." Or you can get a recharger that does deep discharging before recharging. If you need assistance, let me know.

Hello. We had the same problem. Its all corrected now. Go to the Sony website. You will have to order a adaptor/charger. #AC-VQ800. The standard charger you received with the camera sometimes goes out. When we bought the electric adaptor, all the problems were solved. You dont even need the battery. A device that looks like the battery slips inside the battery compartment. Just plug it in and it runs fine. Also, the adaptor has a better charger. Charges really fast. Then you can use the battery when you have to. They will ship the adaptor really fast to you. Like I said, when we got the adaptor, never had a problem again. Fine camera.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the replies!
I found a website (microwarehouse.com) that has adaptors for Sony Mavica cameras but they don't say exactly which cameras they are good for. (And I'm not going to spend $150 on something not knowing if it's the right one!) So I'm still looking. If I can't find anything on a website I'll try calling those numbers you gave me.
Abacaxi: I did drain out my battery completely and left it in the charger overnight afterwards and it is still doing the same thing. The last 20 minutes of my battery is no good

Just FYI: Batteries for the FD73 are $70 and chargers are $50. That $150 price you were given seems a bit high.

Thanks!

I did a search on google for AC-VQ800 that bluroks mentioned and i found it as cheap as 119.00
the sony website does a poor job describing it but it lloks like it is a charger that comes with a battery eliminator
I will probably try one of these soon as the charger for my mavica is getting flukey
I just found the item for 109.00
here is the link http://www.etronics.com/search1.ASP?txtsearch=AC-VQ800&image1.x=15&image1.y=13
it looks like it also works and charges off of a cigiratte adapter as well as a/c

No, I was talking about the actual battery and the actual charger. I don't know how something can be called a battery eliminator if it has to be plugged in to work. The point of batteries is to be able to take it outside. I have just gotten a new universal battery charger. It charges digital camera, camcorder, laptop and cellphone batteries in just about any size (at least I havent found anything that didnt work), has an alarm to warn if polarity is wrong, a polarity reverse switch, a series of leds to show charging progress, a deep discharge for those "memory" batteries and works from both home and car.

Hi ExececutiveGirl
When I bought my camera I also bought a spare battery that is the heavy duty extra long lasting one. This way I always have a fresh battery........this has worked well for me and only cost about $70.00. I got mine at Walmart.

skip: Thanks for the link - I just checked it out... but it doesn't say anywhere that it is for a FD-73 Sony Mavica. There are lots of chargers/adapters out there and I want to make sure that's the right one... I wish these sites would actually list what cameras they were good for!
katzname: Thanks! I thought about that alternative before, and if I can't find an ac adapter (that is specifically for a Mavica FD-73) I may go that route. I think I also saw those heavy duty batteries being sold on ebay, I'll have to check the prices. The Wal-Marts around here are pretty small so I don't know if they'd carry it but I'll have to check it out!

Same thing was happening late last year with my battery (FD91 model), storage time had decreased from about 45 minutes to less than 15. So I upgraded to a new battery, Sony model #NP-F550, which has increased storage time, when re-charged it holds about 150 to 160 minutes, so I now enjoy being able to take a great many more pics before the battery needs an energy fix. This battery cost about $100 in Canada at Sony store, you might be able to get it for less (?) in U.S.

My Mavica battery died a while back and I went to mysimon.com to do a search using the battery number. I found an off brand battery at a greatly reduced price as compared to the Sony battery and it's fantastic. Purchased it right online at www.atbatt.com and it was delivered right away. Highly recommended!
