I have been selling CEDs for the last month or so (I am very sloooow at listing...) and have come to the final CEDs. They are Spiderman CEDs - one is animated and one is the live action movie.
Now that I have a following selling CEDs, do I list them now - or do I wait for the hooplah of the Spiderman Movie?
You must have a CED player to play a CED. They do, however, look good framed and hung on a wall.
BTW, the original artist's name, Steve Ditko is listed on the back of the CED - sure, rub salt in my old wound... sniff sniff ...
I would love your input. Any Marvel comics sellers out there?

Becky,
Although I have no idea what a CED is, I would wait for the release of the movie before listing. The Spider-Man movie is a very HOT movie coming out and one looked forward to by many a comic fan. You will get the best price when the movie is released or a little before.
Steve Dikto is one of the greatest artist to ever draw Spider-Man. He has been doing Spider-Man for many years and is well known in the comic world.
I am an avid Marvel comics collector and reader and seler of comics.

I agree - wait 'til the movie comes out. I would actually sell a week or so before the movie comes out. That's when the pre-movie hype rolls out, which is usually effective at generating collector interest. Selling after the movie comes out can be problematic because a) if the movie bombs, collector interest declines and b) if the movie is a hit, collectors may bypass older material to spend their disposable income on all the cool new collectibles that will undoubtedly be rolled out. I'm currently sitting on a pile of vintage "Planet of the Apes" collectibles, I'm just waiting to ride the wave of Hollywood hype later this Summer.

Hi Mrs. Santa Claus, I just sold a set of used spiderman twin bed sheets over the weekend, I am very pleased with the final price. The bottm fitted one was torn I included that detail in my description along with a separate picture of the defect, it was clearly noticable, the auction received a great deal of hits and I received emails asking If I would ship to foreign countries on this item. One person emailed me and asked if I thought they can be made in curtains. They paid by pay pal, they were shipped first thing this A.M. Hope this helps.
Reenie
Thanks for the info - I think I will let them sit for awhile. Steve Ditko's family is from here in Johnstown - his nephew Steve is an equally talented artist. My husband used to work with him. They were good friends but he lives far away now.
The sniff sniff is because we used to have the drawing table the original Spiderman was drawn on. One of the worst mistakes of my life was getting rid of it.
BUT - that was before eBay, etc. Who would have known?

Hello everybody. As a vintage Marvel Comics fan, I am VERY happy to be reading this thread. Mrs Claus, I think that it's incredible that you once owned the very
table that Steve Ditko drew his creations
on. I'd probably bid five grand on it myself
if it were still around (and if I had the
five grand).
Anyway, is Steve Ditko still alive? Although he has a permanent place in Marvel history, not a lot of info is out there regarding Steve nowadays, or what projects he may be doing currently. As legend
would have it, he and Stan Lee had a falling out way back in 1964 or so over the identity
of the Spider-man villain called the Green Goblin, and Steve vowed to NEVER draw Spider-man (or Dr Strange) again. To my knowledge, the man has kept his word.
PS: What is a CED? If I were selling something of this nature, I might not wait for the movie to come out, being that superhero films are notorious for being delayed and/or horrible when they do come out. Of course, if this item happens to be rare somehow, perhaps I would wait until the
pre-Spidey movie hysteria (if any), and then
hype my auction like crazy to maximize my return.
Ok, I'm done babbling. I just wanted to say
how blown away I am that a fellow auctionwatch poster once owned an historic
piece of Marvelmania of this magnitude. Although it may seem like I'm going
overboard, owning Steve Ditko's drawing table
is kind of like owning the piano that John Lennon composed the song "Imagine" on. At least, that's how important it is to comic book collectors.

Blackjack - thanks for the kind words - of course I keep kicking myself for that moment of stupidity.
I actually might be able to get that info for you.
A CED is how movies originally were. They are roughly the size of a record album. If you want to see a picture of the CED itself go to eBay auction 1426417632 . I have the CEDs ganged together so you can see those, too.
They look really neat framed and hung on a wall if you don't have a player.
The cartoon one includes the story of how Spiderman first came about.
I will be listing them about two weeks before the movie comes out for a 10 day auction, making sure to cover 2 weekends. I may as well milk it for all it is worth!
