I have never tried to sell many books, but the other day I bought a book dated 1885 ~ The Works of William Shakespeare ~ Vol IV. It is in poor condition. Is it worth anything? What catagory do I list it in?

Someone might want it, but you aren't likely to get much for something not in good shape.

I'd list it in non-fiction or perhaps collectibles. Put the date in the title and be brutally honest about the condition. You can start it low, use a reserve if you must and cross your fingers. One never knows who wants what?

focus on the illustrator (if there is one)---and the condition of the illustrations and what kind they are

eg: tipped in, pen & ink etc

book dated 1885 ~ The Works of William Shakespeare ~ Vol IV

You have one volume of a set (you are missing at least 3/4 of the set), and there were dozens of editions of shakespeare (he was dead and out of copyright) printed during this time. They are of little value unless you have the whole set, the editor didn't hack out the bawdy parts (the victorians edited "R"-rated plays into PG), or the illustrator is famous.

It's not worth the listing fee.
