*sigh* Need to vent a bit. I have this Newbie buyer, 0 feedback, newly registered. He won a bid of mine, and I sent a gentle reminder that payment has not yet arrived. All other auctions from that time-frame have come in, and been sent out but this one. He is adament that payment was sent and I asked him to please send me the check number and when it was sent and I would check on it from this end. (which I sent 2 requests and he will not even give me a check number) He wrote back and said he has no intentions of cancelling the first check (I never asked him to) as it would cost as much as the winning bid, and I quote " I have no intentions on rewriting and sending you another check. Sorry if you dont see it that way?" Sounds like a deadbeat and I will move on,and do waht I have to do, but gawwwwwd....there should be a newbie handbook. He is taking such a strong stand on something that is really so simple to work out if he wants to, which it is obvious he doesn't! Where do these people come from?

The old checks in the mail routine.
Perhaps we could print a set of reasonable buyers guidelines on a baseball bat and then wack them over the head with it. Perhaps then it would sink in.

I'd write just one more e-mail saying that you are NOT responsible for the USPS. If you offer PayPal or another service remind him of that. Give him 24 hours to respond and then NPB. You are wasting too much time on a simpleton.
Unknown...There's a huge number of sellers out there who'd buy those bats! LOL.

There are a number of "handbooks" out there. I have had one posted on my site for over a year. Feel free to link to it. Guide to Auctions

It's good to vent once in awhile, keeps you sane. New bidder or not I would not waste anymore time on them.
The excuse is just a load of bull puckey. Relist, file for your fees and move on.

I had one myself recently reassuring me that the check was indeed in the mail. When showdown time came, this person could not get PayPal to work either. Uh, yeah, uh huh, right...

Related to this, how long should someone wait before filing a NPB?
I have an auction that completed 5 or 6 days
ago (won by a newbie with just one feedback, postive, BTW).
I haven't heard word one from the bidder despite two payment reminders.
I don't sell much so I've not run into
this before.

I'd file an NPB on day seven for a non-responder. Get your credit ten days later.
Don't even wait if this does not get a response. Relist.

Thanks. I gave 'em 2 more days to respond.

Everyone is different. You'll get as many different answers as there are sellers. Find one you're comfortable with, with out being a wuss, and go for it.
I ask for payment in my TOS within 14 days of the end of the auction. Usually I wait a bit longer. Then they get a reminder. If I don't get a response within a couple of days I NPB. The NPB usually gets a response fast. If you don't hear from them, just complete the process, neg and move on.

I guess it depends on the category you sell in. All my deadbeats (not many, really) responded right away. I get one or two non-responders every week, but their checks show up in my mailbox.

gawwwwwd....there should be a newbie handbook
They can't even read "NO PAYPAL" even as a big scrolling marquee going across their screen... I doubt they'd read the handbook! LOL

I've got 10 day payment terms and we haven't exceeded that yet. But I'm concerned that I haven't even heard from the buyer yet.
Since I don't know if I've got an NPB, I can't relist the stuff, so I can't get any money out of it.

Got mail back on this.
Buyer indicates that he has some family issues (illness in the family) and couldn't get to email. Goes on to say that he's new and make a mistake and bid too high and couldn't afford the amount that was bid.
Looks like I'm giving my 1st neg and doing
my first NPB.

Ugh. Do I really need to go thru ALL of that ebay process?
The seller said flat out that they aren't going to pay for that auction and this
"non paying bidder" warning stuff is just going to aggravate the buyer...

Sundog - that is the only way
You have to file your NPB alert, then at least 10 days later you have to file for your FVF's. And yep, the customer gets an email from ebay from each one.

So now the bidder is admitting to lying to you?
Not my name on ebay.

Eh?
Not sure what you mean. The buyer said A) couldn't get to email so sorry for the late response and B) overbid and can't afford the bid amount.
I can see both of these being honest rookie
mistakes.
