From someone who bought a Christian CD, no less! Was under $7, and now I have to pay bank fees. (Yes, my bank charges the person who gets it returned on their account!) I waited 10 days, and have already shipped and left him positive feedback. Who would have thought the check would have been returned 13 days after being deposited.

Boo Hiss! I hate selling to people who buy Christian items.

Have you sent them an email informing them that the check was returned? I've had 2 in all this time, and both bidders made good the check amount PLUS what I charge for bad check returns. My bank charges me $5, but I have them pay $10 for the extra agravation and hassle. It could be an honest mistake.

Now WHERE is spell checker when you need it?

Wow, you are very lucky to have only 1 bounced check in all this time.

My first year on ebay I accepted checks and I had over 30 bounced checks. Some never made good on it, some went to collections, and I was charged $20 or $25 on each bounced check. That's at least $600 in bounced check fees.

And none of my bounced checks were for christian items - they were all for clothing items.

I no longer accept checks, under any circumstances.

I put right in my auction TOS that any bounced checks incur $30 fee plus face value of the check. I've only had one bouncer and he paid. My auction partner had a few and also collected the $30 per check. The bank charges us $22.50 and we keep $7.50 for ourselves for the headache.

I wait about 15 days on average. A check can bounce a month after it is cashed.

I am sorry you place me in that same category...as I purchase Christian items also.
I am sorry that you received a bad check.
I would not have sent you a bad check.

...was probably a Canadian too.....

Most people make checks good. Otherwise is a cost of doing business. You will have made lots of money from people who refuse to bid on MO only auctions. No doubt you are still very much ahead on the game.

How have you done selling to the lions??????

Chances are they will make good on it. All you have to have is someone bounce a check against your own account or have someone delay a check's clearance to get in this mess.

One good way to deal with this is to state what the bank's penalty is for a bounced check (say $10-25) in your EOA and it will stop.

When I accepted checks my auctions stated anyone who bounced a check would be subject to a $25 fee.

This did NOT stop the check bouncers.

It just seems that I have more problems with people who bid on Christian items than anything else. Most of the time the stuff sells high, but I do get annoyed at the fact 99% of my deadbeats bid on Christian stuff. On the other hand, I've met some wonderful people who have bid on Christian stuff. I shouldn't have lumped them all together, but I just knew my first bad check would be for a Christian item, and I was right!

I have been doing ebay 3 years and no bounced checks so far

When we had the store most bad checks were insuffeciant funds ...can happen to anyone..I would usaaly just call the bank and if funds were there re-doposit,
"Boo Hiss! I hate selling to people who buy Christian items"
as to christian aspect sounds a little prejudice to me...If you hate selling to peaple buying christian items why sell christian items ?

During our past 3 years of selling, we've had 2 bouncy checks ... 1st one was a not large amount of moolah, and I found out her dear Dad had passed away and in her grief, she totally screwed up her financials .... [i cried, 'cuz been there done THAT! ugh] and told her to keep her lil' treasure as a gift ... didn't want reimbursed [yes her negs were rackin' up by then]........ the 2nd time though, was a different story ... guy bounced a $50+ check for a toy robot [yep, i'd sent the item and left positive feedback already]... SEVERAL months of broken promises to make good on the bad check, and I finally told him that my whole family was urging me to "simply file a complaint" with his local police station [you can find that info at switchboard.com] that he had passed a bad check, and that i was quite certain that was at least a 4th degree felony in most states. .... i had the good money within the week that i sent that email .... good money for the bounce plus the fees my bank charged plus a bit for my Advil account. --- Marcia in Ohio

jenndiggy1: Odds are your buyer will make good on the check...as I'm sure you would if you ever accidentally overdrew your checking account.
