Hello!

I have my first winner from Chili. What is the best way to send the item? Also, he wants to pay by credit card. I suggested PayPal. I do take credit cards as a merchant but I do not know what to think about a Chili card.

I would appreciate any help you have to offer....

Make sure the address says Chile

Also, they will probably give you the street addy in Spanish. Put it on the package exactly the way they give it to you.

What does their feedback look like? I might be a little concerned about doing a paypal transaction with a foreign customer if they aren't an established ebay member.

Note to self: Never post on AW after taking cold medicine .....

Thanks for the heads up! My geography teacher is probably rolling over in her grave ....

The high bidder signed up the same day they bid - I am their first and only bid. Any suggestions other than PayPal? I would hate to have a crisis over $20.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know the name of the service, maybe BidPay?

They will send you a money order after the winning bidder signs up and gives their credit card. I would wait until the money order actually arrives before shipping. I believe they send a notice that the MO is being sent, but I would wait until I physically have it in my hands.

If you think they might be willing to spring for a $5 fee, you could suggest that they pay using BidPay- you don't have to sign up with them. You'll get a Western Union money order in the mail, and there's no chance of a chargeback.

For what it's worth, I checked my U-PIC insurance account and Chile is not on the list of restricted countries, so problems with mail delivery shouldn't be too bad, but don't quote me on that...

okay- so toolady beat me to it...

I just received a PP update, I noticed they had added some more countries to PP. I checked the entire list (39 countries now) and Chile isn't on the list. The only way this buyer could use PP is to get someone else to do it for him (and that's a PP no-no). That can cause trouble and leaves you unprotected.

BidPay is the way to go. Although you get a notice pretty fast that a payment has been made...it takes a little longer to get the go ahead and ship confirmation. On International sales I wait 36 hours after the confirmation to ship. I figure if a problem does pop up with the card...it ought to occur within 36 hours if the card company is on the ball. Some sellers wait for the BidPay money order to arrive before shipping. That way they know it won't/can't be recalled!

Thanks, all - you are wonderful! Guess it is off to suggest BidPay to my customer. I don't think I would be so worried if he wasn't a newborn newbie!

Cash - than you know you can trust them

Be sure you know how to ship item before giving total. Not sure what you sold but shipping can be very expensive if by air. Also, there may be some prohibitions regarding what can be ship.

I've sent about a dozen packages to Chile, to two different people, one person wanted action figures from our web site the other person bought Harley stuff a few times.

both paid in cash, and the action figure guy sent the money in old silver certificates. I sent him a email and told him that the money was old and the bills were probably worth more than just face value, he said that his dad had a box of old money from a trip they took to the united states when he was a little boy and if it was still good he wanted to use it up. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa OK. Every week or so I would get another order form him for more action figures always in certificates, he even asked for some items that I didn't have so I ran to the toy store and got some for him. Turned out that he had a toy store and was actually selling them for some good money down there. I just wish his dad had, had a bigger box..........

never had a problem with any of the items I shipped.
