"eBay also announced that it will ban the listing of items closely associated with notorious individuals who have committed murderous crimes within the last 100 years."
I wonder if that also includes books?

Any bets on what items they'll ban next?

Seriously, It seems to me that this new directive has more to do with global expansion than with the primary US site. Yahoo had problems in France with this issue and caved to the Courts on the matter so there is precedence. Looks like an attempt to avoid problems before a new international expansion.

I see that there's no mention of banning Japanese WWII items. I'm surprised they found a place to stop...given that they're global and all.
Surely there are items to be found everywhere in the world, that will be hateful to someone...somewhere. Why, they hardly scratched the surface.
I'm sure they'll rectify their little oversights, shortly.

My Grandfather passed away in December, he was in the War and brought home a Nazi Helmet. Grandma wants me to sell it... I was going to wait awhile, but now I guess I should thow it up tonight.. What do you think? I feel sick about selling it for so many reasons, but Grandma really needs to pay her Gas Bill.

It's now or never...so now sounds about right, to me. You may hit a last minute buying frenzy, too...
Oops...I'm not familiar with the subject. When you read the article, it says you could sell items without nazi or SS markings...so I guess you need to go over the helmet carefully. You could list it later, if it has no marks.
I still think the buyers will be out now, though...

Some of these old items DO NOT promote the agenda of the Nazi's, but do represent their existance. Are we now denying that they existed?
I have a number of inmate letters from camps such as Auschwitz and they do have an SS censor mark. Is this type historic document now off limits?
What a miscarriage of history this will be.

Does this mean no John Wayne Gacy Paintings?
Dahmer household items? Signed Letters From Serial Killers?
"Summer of Sam" Movies?
I wonder what a murderous crime can be defined as.
How about the thousands of Native Americans the settlers killed. No More thanksgiving Decorations on Ebay.
Makes you wonder how far this farce will go.

Just how does, for example, a German helmet with a swastika on it "promote or glorify" Nazis? It is simply a thing.
And what of the 1920s "good luck" coin I have with the old American good luck symbol on it -- which happens to be a swastika.
Oh well, we've been through this before. Ebay will do what it wants to do, whether the reasoning is intelligent or not, makes sense or not, and whether or not there are reasonable exceptions. (In all cases: NOT.)
Ebay doesn't care if it acts reasonably or even makes sense, as long as it continues to make money. It won't lose much by banning these items. Let's pretend Germany was never involved in WWII.
BTW I guess it will still be okay to list my trunkful of Bataan Death March stuff....

Oh, and here's a box of documentary war material that ebay would just love me to list about the rape of Nanking...

But I must remember: I can auction nothing that merely pictures a swastika.

Oh, brother! The thing is, once something like this starts, where does it stop? There is hardly anything under the sun that doesn't offend someone, somewhere, for some reason (or no reason at all, sometimes). Under this new edict a book I sold recently called "U-boats Under the Swastika" would be banned for sale on eBay even though it in no way "glorified" Naziism. Many things about that era will be "verboten" now...

Time for intelligent adults with WWII items to sell to go to a real auction site.
