The email address I have listed for Auction Watch appears nowhere else -- it is totally separate from anything to do with eBay -- and is NEVER used ANYWHERE on the Internet. It is only set up as an email address for Auction Watch.
The only time I used it send email was when I finally figured out how to disable the AW weekly alert (which I never signed up for and did not want).
Yet today when I check the email (which I don't do often since it is not a "personal" account), I find spam from DialPad with a note that "Email delivery provided by DoubleClick's DARTMail" and with instructions to "click here" to "unsubscribe from this email list".
Is AuctionWatch selling emails?

Hello,
The following link may provide you with the answers you are looking for:
http://www.auctionwatch.com/privacy.html
You may also email [email protected] .
It appears that no information you provide to AuctionWatch is sold or shared.
Hope this helps,
Marty

Okay, but since the address is used nowhere but here, how did it end up with DialPad?
Is Doubleclick harvesting emails from Auction Watch users?

Hi,
This statement is pure speculation, but your provider may be making your email address available to others.
I know from experience, with the email address I currently use, that my email inbox is often inundated with junk mail.
This is regardless of my sharing my address with a limited number of people.
More information can be obtained by emailing the address on the Privacy Statement page.
It really is a mystery.

Hi Marty,
My AW email address is with Yahoo. I have another Yahoo address and neither has EVER received spam! Yahoo has a very good spam blocker. I also doubt that they are selling my address.

FWIW...I've been here a long time, and have used 2 different email addresses. My old one was Netscape...and now Myrealbox. I've never gotten spam at either one.

The address is visible when I click on your name ... and there are ways to scavenge these user emails from auctionwatch.
Your email was scavenged by a spammer, and will undoubtedly be sold to other spammers. And DialPad is a spammer!

Thanks abacaxi.
I knew it had to originate here. I would have thought AW would be able to prevent this type of "scavenging".

engelskdansk,
When you make your email available in your AW Profile, it is visible to anyone who visits the site simply by clicking on your posting ID. If you are concerned about those who might "scavenge" your email from your AW profile, you might want to consider editing your preferences so your email doesn't show.
Just a suggestion. I hope it helps.
Pat

I LOVE IT!
The guy makes his e-mail address public on, of all things, a message board, and then wonders how a spammer got it.
Gee, I wonder?
