Question for godzillatemple (and any one else who has any ideas)
I know you were selling pocket watches on ebay a while ago, so I thought you might have a suggestion. I have a watch that has sentimental value that's about 40 years old- its a Longines. I want to get it repaired. Do you know of a repair place who can handle it and and can be trusted (its my Mom's watch and she's paranoid because she's heard nasty things about the Internet.)

Nope, I'm the "original" Barry. I believe Mr. Barris joined AW a year or two after I did. I haven't been posting much lately due to some life changes, though....

Thanks Godzillatemple, I will follow up on that. I appreciate your offer to hook me up with your repair guy, but I'm in NJ, so I don't think it would work.
Finding a reliable watchmaker locally is always preferable but if that fails, e-mail him with some questions about your watch and see what you think.
The last watch I sent him, an Omega F300hz, was a real project as these old tuning fork watches can be very difficult to time....it took him about 6 weeks and some parts from Omega but the watch came back like new and has run excellent ever since (about 1 year).
I've purchased all of my watches from distant collectors or on eBay and haven't had any difficulties with shipping....I just use Priority Mail with insurance.
If you are loathe to let your keepsake out of your hands, most jewelers or clockmakers in your area are aware of the local horological society which could give you a referral.

Just one more question before you go, godzillatemple, if you don't mind.
I recently purchased a book "The Theory of Horology" with intentions to resell it.
However, I can't place a value on it as it isn't found on any booklist I've tried.
The writers are Charles-Andre Reymondin, Georges Monnier, Didier Jeanneret, and Umberto Pelaratti. Edited by The Technical College of the Vallee De Joux. Published by The Swiss Federation of Technical Colleges (FET)& Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Education Program (1999) in collaberation with GREME and WOSTEP.
Do you know of where this book might be listed so I can find out what it lists for?
Thanks,
Victoria

Thanks, toke.
I swear it wasn't there the last time I looked. I think. Or maybe I'm just NOT seeing things. I'm already hard-of-hearing, so I only hear half of what everbody says...... It's going to make my life especially challenging if I start seeing things only half of the time.
(It is a good price, now if I can realize just a decent percentage of that, I'd be happy).
