I recently listed close to 200 items and I just got this sick feeling in my stomach:
The last time I listed, I put about 25 things up, and out of those 25 items, 3 winners attempted to pay me with Paypal even though it was absolutely NOT a payment option.
This time around, with so many items up, I want to make absolutely sure NO ONE can do this. I have a Paypal account, but only use it for buying.
My question:
A) Can people put money in my account without my approval, and
B) Can I change my Paypal e-mail address so no one can even access this account through my Ebay e-mail address, since it is currently the same as Paypal?

I believe they can still PayPal you and you still get a notice that tells you to come and register to claim your money that has been paid to you. I sits in their history as pending until you put that email address back into PayPal's system.
I just went threw all this on Sunday night. I took my email out. Someone paid me. I got notice. Since they paid wish instant transfer I add my email back into my account and presto I had the money and their transaction then showed completed.
So registered or not they can send you PayPal money. You just do not have to accept it.

You're likely to have PayPal payments sent to ANY email address you register on eBay and use for buyer correspondance, whether that email address is registered on a PayPal account or not....but you don't have to accept the payments.
However, if the email address registered on eBay and used in your correspondance is ALSO registered on your PayPal account, the money DOESN'T HAVE TO be accepted and will go into your account AUTOMATICALLY (up to your receiving limit, if you have a personal account). So, yes, people CAN put money into your account without your approval.
You can drop the email address you use on eBay and in correspondance from your PayPal account, and simply tell buyers who send PayPal money to that email address that you don't accept PayPal. As long as you don't re-register that email address on PayPal, the money will go unclaimed.

Change the email address at PayPal to something hard to guess and DEFINITELY not the same as your eBay contact. Of course, it should be an address you can actually use.
That way, if anyone pays you by PayPal it lands in a not-yet-active account, BUT you get notified about it by email. Then you just imform the sender of the money that you do not accept paypal and they have to retrieve your money and try again by a route you do accept.

Ik I will opem this bucket of worms.... hope it is not to complicated, but if you already have the PayPal account, why not use it to accept payments?

How about this: You keep your PayPal account as it is and if someone sends you funds, simply send it back to them with a note that you do not accept PayPal and (politely) ask them to pay via another method?

There are a number of reasons why I do not want to accept Paypal--or any other online payment service.
Not the least of which is;
--the fees to accept
--the mandated bank account info
--the threat of chargebacks (no matter how rare)
--the freezing of funds for questionable reasons
--the fees to withdraw my money

By the way, my auctions are doing quite well.
I sell older items where condition is a significant factor in determining value. So, there is never a situation where there are several identical auctions to choose from and I lose because the others take Paypal or Billpoint and I don't. Buyers generally go with the better condition item--the one with less flaws---regardless of the payment options.
